A Spiritual Perspective on Suicide
This post answers questions for The Council from a reader named, Impelloe, that were raised after reading our post, Challenges, Suicide, and Spiritual Growth. Impelloe says they’re surprised The Council isn’t more discouraging of suicide and they make it seem like a viable option.
The Council says suicide is a viable option. They ask why would we discourage someone from pre-planning suicide in spirit and deciding that it’s something they want to learn from? Or understand something they’ve gone through from another lifetime? Or understand something they may choose in a future lifetime? We’d never discourage anything a soul is planning.
Sometimes a soul will choose suicide to teach people around them a lesson, like waking up to ideas they didn’t have before, or understanding love and when it’s lost as opposed to when it’s there. There’s nothing wrong with suicide if that’s what you want to experience. If you choose suicide to help another soul grow or to help yourself grow there’s nothing wrong with that because you never end. You leave one lifetime (or reality) and plan another.
As difficult as suicide is for the people who are left behind, they’ve all chosen in spirit to be part of this suicide experience. It’s not something you’re forcing another soul to go through. It’s an example of group acceptance. We’ll go through this suicide with you because you want to learn about it. It’s going to be difficult for us, but we love you enough to participate in this suicide for you.
Or the person who commits suicide does it to teach people something they desperately want to learn. We are spirits that are here to learn from bad experiences as well as good ones and it’s all done out of love.
If you know or hear of someone who’s committed suicide, don’t judge them. You can wonder what their lesson was. What was your lesson? What did you learn from this suicide? You can applaud the spirit who commits suicide because they’ve pulled off something that could have been very difficult. It was their way out to end this lifetime, learn from it, and help you learn.
Impelloe asks if suicide is ever the only planned exit strategy. The Council says suicide is never the only plan. You always have options. Some people may choose to heal. Someone who’s depressed my find a doctor that gives them the medicine they need. Some people come in with the plan that if life is too difficult for them they’ll use suicide as a possible out. They leave that option on the table, but they want to learn, grow, and find out what else they can do to change their situation, to understand themself, or to help the other people around them. There are many options. The soul chooses what it wants to learn.
Impelloe asks if someone creates a soul contract to commit suicide, do they have to go through with it? The Council says, no, because you always have the ability to change what you have planned. In your human mind you may think you want to change it, but your higher self may say no because you really want to go through this suicide. It’s difficult. We know as a human you want to change your plans to commit suicide, but your higher self knows you’ve chosen to experience it and so you stay with it.
Impelloe asks about a suicide that speaks out about injustice and changing something, like a hunger striker. The Council says if you pick an experience like being a hunger striker to change injustice or unfair conditions, then that’s probably what you wanted to do and the only way to do this was to do something drastic. If you’ve committed suicide and ended one reality, but have made a great change for others, this is a great thing you’ve done out of love.
Impelloe closes by saying they hope challenges can still be overcome and speaking out be done another way beside suicide. The Council replies that of course there are other ways besides suicide for those people who choose them.

Since the blog is currently a project we do in our spare time it can take a while for us to do a session with The Council on a question and then publish a post on the session. Depending on the question and the session it can sometimes take weeks after a question is asked to publish a post with The Council’s answer. Please be patient.
The Council
Cynthia is able to communicate with a group of five non-physical spirit guides in a manner similar to the way Esther Hicks communicates with and speaks for the spirit guides, Abraham, and Jane Roberts communicated and spoke for the spirit guide, Seth. I (Bob) basically interview The Council as they speak through Cynthia during what we refer to as a session. Sessions generally last 5-15 minutes and are usually audio recorded. During the session Cynthia is aware of what The Council is saying and she also receives visual impressions and other types of telepathic communication from them.
The Council’s Basic Guidance
Since we began these sessions with The Council around 2009 they consistently emphasize a few basic ideas that we attempt to summarize here:
1) You are an eternal spiritual being in a physical body.
You are the energy and vibration of continuously expanding love, intelligence, and joy.
Your physical experience in your physical body and your psychological experience of your personality is a small part of the totality of who you truly are.
Let yourself imagine from time to time what it might feel like to experience more of the wondrous totality of who you really are, and don’t be surprised if you are able to experience this more often.
2) You are the creator of all that you experience.
As you open to the possibility your true nature is greater than you ordinarily perceive, it becomes easier to consider the possibility that this expanded you is truly the creator of everything that you experience.
If you’re used to thinking of yourself in a more limited sense, the idea that you are the creator of your experience may be difficult to understand. Our post, What About This Idea That We Create Whatever We Desire, offers insights into this idea.
3) You are here to expand the love you are into physical reality.
You chose, as a spiritual being, to come into this physical reality to experience the joy of expanding the love you are as a spiritual being, into this physical reality. This is your purpose for being here.
Finding Your Way Around the Blog
Home Page
The left-hand column on the Home page contain a long chronological series of posts with the most recent on top. Each post begins with a title. Clicking on a post title will take you to a blog page dedicated to that particular post. Following each post is a Like button where you can indicate to us and other readers if you like the post.
The footer section of each post identifies the date the post was published, the Categories the post has been assigned to, the keyword/keyphrase Tags assigned to the post, and a Comment link. If readers comments on a post, the Comments link will indicate the number of comments. If a post has no comments yet, the Comment link text appears as “Leave a Comment”.

Thanks for commenting. I thought that the Council would know the real feelings and situation of the asker.
Many people looking up this subject may be either considering suicide or have been bereaved by it.
Yes please, I would like to ask the Council questions about hope and coming through and a different path, and how the affect of this tragedy could be achieved (eg speaking out, waking up) without one having to sacrifice oneself in this way.
I’ve seen other sites say that suicide causes much posthumous cleaning up and havoc on earth and heaven. It may be used and it’s not to be judged as a sin or failure, but it’s a premature exit which leaves life lessons undone, to only need conquering in a new life or form.

I’m the person who asked this and looked up this site, already upset, hoping for encouragement not to.
Can you imagine how this sounded?
I wish there had been more about overcoming challenges.

I couldn’t disagree more. As a believer in the God who created us in His image and gave us life, I see suicide as a slap in the face of our Creator, just as murdering another human being would be. There is one God, with angels who serve Him, and there are also rebellious, fallen angels who hate Him. Since these fallen angels can’t destroy God, they try to destroy the creatures made in His image – us. That’s what these “non-physical spirit guides” are who are persuading people to destroy themselves. Have nothing to do with them.
God is love, and He has a purpose for each life. To see how much He loves you, check out the Bible, especially the gospel of John.

Thank you for this perspective. When my mother committed suicide it was shocking, but it was clear that her journey on this side was done. With her gone, I could finally really dig into my own healing, and a great deal of it was healing from our difficult relationship. One thing I’ve experienced is, if I’m not supposed to die from suicide at a particular moment, spirit will step in and intervene.
