Career Guidance for a University Professor Who Feels Stuck

This post answers questions for The Council from a reader who goes by the initials, PE, who’s looking for career advice. They say they’ve followed an academic path and work as a university professor, but they’re losing inspiration for what they do even though they started out loving it. The academic work helped them grow intellectually, but now they feel stuck.

The Council says the reason PE feels stuck is there’s no travel in connection with their work. Having the knowledge they possess was a pre-birth plan, but there was also a pre-birth plan to teach, and one of the places they wished to teach was London. Perhaps if you went there for a visit and inquired about work, opportunities would be extended to you and would bring your career on a different path and widen what you know. There’s more to learn for you about people and about history.

Before you make a trip it would be a good idea to study historical places you find interesting and you’d like to visit. As you go to these places and speak to people there, opportunities will become available to you without your even trying for them. The Council sees many opportunities waiting for you, but travel is necessary. Trips to Europe will take your career to a new level.

You wanted to teach in your current lifetime, but there was travel associated with your teaching. As you progress along your path you wanted to find different sources of information to add to the way you approach your teaching. These new ideas will bring new awareness and self-discovery to you and help others to discover themselves. It’s time for you to take the knowledge you have and put it out there in a simpler, down to earth, humorous and refreshing way.

Research history. What parts of history are you attracted to? There are many places in history you wished to experience in this lifetime. Read up on the places you’re interested in or watch films. The ones your spirit feels you’re ready for will call to you and you’ll expand your path by making these trips. Teach in different places and in different ways and along the way you’ll also learn.

  2. We think staying on the track of what gets you excited sounds like a good plan. The Council would probably advise you to feel it working out. Good luck with your career turn, Pam, and listening to your intuition. Love and light, Bob & Cynthia

  3. I am going to take a career turn next year and have been trying to listen to my intuition about the best path to take. I just follow the breadcrumb trail of what gets me excited and hope that works out. :0)
