Ask The Council

What will you ask Spirit?

Grandfather’s Passing

This post in inspired by questions for The Council from a reader named, Sarah, about death and the experience we have during the last days and hours of our lives. Her grandfather, who loved her deeply, is currently passing and she wonders what he’s experiencing while she’s with him in hospice.

The Council says each person has their own experience when it’s their time to pass. Her grandfather was connecting to others in spirit who passed on before him, and as this became clear to him he would come back into this reality. The Council describes it as going back and forth with one foot in each place.

Sarah asks The Council for a better understanding of what her grandfather was experiencing in his last hours, a better understanding of the connection the two of them shared, and what things will be like for him after he passes. The Council says where he is after his passing he only experiences joy and love. The releasing of her grandfather’s body and returning to spirit was a great experience for him.

The Council asks Sarah to review this lifetime with her grandfather. What has she learned from him? The Council believes Sarah and her grandfather have come together after a previous lifetime where there was just the two of them. They were uneducated and living off the land. In his current lifetime it was important for her grandfather to support his family so he didn’t continue the pattern from that past life where there wasn’t enough food and shelter.

The Council says as Sarah gets past the grief of her grandfather’s passing she can look for all the things in his life to be grateful for. They ask Sarah if she can take this perception of gratefulness and love, and give it to the people that are around her in her current lifetime. And can she find things to appreciate in each of these people before they pass on?

Sarah asks if it’s important to be with her grandfather as he passes on. The Council says each person is different. Some have no idea you are sitting by the bed for days because they’re in conversation with the spirit world and they’re resting before leaving the body. Some become conscious again and are very happy to have family present.

Sarah asks if he’s aware of what’s going on when he appears to be unconscious. The Council says most people are aware, even when you think they’re not. They can still hear. Sometimes the spirit is lifting out of the body and they’re able to see who’s in the room even though they appear unconscious.

Sarah asks if her grandfather is experiencing fear. The Council says they don’t see this for him. Some do experience fear until they see the light and the other people who have crossed over before them, and the fear leaves them. As they see spirits and angels and experience all the love that is coming towards them, there isn’t any fear going into the light.

Sarah asks if she’ll experience more of this lifetime with him, but in another form? The Council says to ask her grandfather for signs he’s around, and ask for dreams. Speak with him as if he’s still in his physical body and see what happens. As she tells her grandfather what’s going on in her life, see what happens around her and she’ll experience the connection is still there.

Sarah closes by saying she’d like to understand the end of life process from a spiritual point of view so she’ll be able to navigate it in the future. The Council says anyone who is getting ready to leave this particular lifetime, look for the light, think of people you have loved who have gone on before you, feel the energy of love, and it will carry you right into the spirit world.

Can We Create a Painless Physical Death?

This post is inspired by a question from Rob, who asks The Council if it’s possible to negotiate with our higher self to have a painless physical death.

The Council says, yes, this is quite possible. They say our thoughts are able to create everything. If it’s our desire to leave this reality pain-free, then it’s possible to do it.

Listen to our entire 2-minute session with The Council on this question to hear all their guidance for Rob and the rest of us, and let us know what you think.

A Stillborn Pregnancy

Jyoti’s questions

This post is inspired by questions from a reader named Jyoti about a wonderful pregnancy she had in early 2013 that ended in her giving birth to a stillborn baby. It tells the story of a spirit who originally planned to be her child, but just before birth agreed with Jyoti’s loving spirit to remain in the non-physical so it could learn more before coming to the physical world. She wants to try and get pregnant again and give birth to the same soul, but the pain of loosing the child left her feeling sensitive about this.

Having this soul again

Before this pregnancy she wasn’t so keen on having a child, but now all she wants is to have this soul again. She now has the understanding that all souls have purpose, pick their parents, and if they’re not ready to come into the physical they remain in the non-physical.

A Dream

In a dream the spirit came to her with a message and Jyoti asks: Why did he leave us? Is he coming back? What does this message mean? Should we try again now or wait until we’re more mentally prepared?

A Strong Connection

The Council sees a strong connection between Jyoti and this spirit and while they cannot say when she should become pregnant again, if all goes as planned there’s a good chance this spirit will return to her. So they ask Jyoti to speak to the child at night before she goes to sleep, ask if it’s ready to return, tell this spirit about their life, and see what happens.

You Are Responsible for What You Do In This Lifetime You Are Creating

Using audio playlists to publish more frequent posts

It’s been a challenge to publish posts as frequently as we’d like. The process – record a session with The Council to answer a reader’s question, transcribe the recording, study the recording and transcript, and write a post to give you an idea what the session was like and how we’re understanding the material – has been somewhat time consuming.

Now that we’ve figured out how to include in a post an audio playlist of a recorded session (if your browser supports this), we hope to publish more frequent posts that make these session recordings available without the extended written content typical of most earlier posts. As time permits it’s possible we’ll update these posts with additional written content, particularly if reader/listener comments indicate an interest in our thoughts on something in the session.

Ask The Council in-person group sessions

The session this post is devoted to is different than sessions described in earlier posts. It’s a recording of a group session. These are sessions we’ve recently begun doing with small groups of people near our home on Staten Island in New York. These meetings are hosted by someone acquainted with The Council’s teachings and is interested in helping others experience The Council in person.

A typical group session

When several new people attend one of these meetings for the first time, there’s usually some general discussion about The Council and their teachings. Otherwise there’s usually an opportunity for people to comment on material from earlier sessions and on how that material might be influencing their day to day experience. Next is a short guided meditation intended to help people be more receptive to experiencing The Council, followed by the actual session with The Council, and then some post-session discussion of people’s impressions.

During the session The Council typically opens with some discussion of a topic they feel is appropriate for the people attending, and then the session is opened up to questions from participants. For the most part we expect the playlists in these posts will only include the portion of the meeting where The Council is speaking through Cynthia and participants are responding.

This group session

The title of this post refers to the subject The Council began this session with – the idea each person is responsible for what they do in the lifetime they are creating. They emphasize you are not responsible for creating the behavior of other people; you are only responsible for your experience of other people’s behavior. This can be confusing if you’re under the impression there is little or no difference between someone’s behavior and your experience of it. But The Council says there are many ways to experience someone else’s behavior and you have the free will to choose.

At the top of the playlist below (in quotes) is the name of either the first track, the track currently playing, or the most recently played track. Just beneath that is the date and place where the session occurred. Tracks are numbered, have a title indicating a main idea on that track, and the track length in minutes and seconds. The tracks should automatically play one after the other and then begin the first track again.

Play: Click triangle (►). Pause: Click icon (||) that replaces the triangle while the recording plays. Fast Forward/Rewind: Click to the right/left of the play bar during play. Mute on/off: Click speaker icon. Volume: Click bar to the right of the speaker icon.

Near Death Experiences as Evidence of Spiritual Reality

A reader named Jose wants to know why some people who have a near death experience (NDE) are able to come back to their physical body, and others just have a physical death experience and don’t come back.

From his reading about near death experiences, Jose says it appears that as you cross over from physical reality to spiritual reality, you realize your spiritual magnificence and ability to cure your physical body of any disease or catastrophic accident, and live a wonderful life. With this in mind Jose wants to know why anyone wouldn’t return to their physical body after realizing such power, particularly if they could also prevent loved ones from experiencing the emotional pain and suffering that often occurs when someone departs physical reality.

When You are No Longer in Your Physical Body, You are Still You

“We would like to say here that there are many that have near death experiences and do not have any memory of it, because those who have the near death experience and come back to share it with others, this was part of their plan incarnating into this lifetime.

“At this particular time on a planetary level, many of the souls that are living in the physical body are learning about being spirits in this physical body. But they want some proof that there is more, [that] there is a beyond, that they have come in, that they can (so to speak) die and come back.

“And so the ones that have the near death experiences and return to share that… that was part of their purpose. Much of the information they receive when they are in that near death state… all of it is not remembered and brought back with them. So what is brought back and shared is to help others know that there is a great beyond; there is a better place; there is a spiritual eternity that goes on.”

“The people that do have these near death experiences and come back to share that, it was their agreement that this would happen and they would be carriers of the messages, with proof of what they experienced: that there is more than just living in this physical body.”

“And so it was also planned that all ages would have this experience, and would have proof of what was going on when they were (so-called) dead: that they knew…what was being said, what was going on, who was there. So you have young children experiencing this, old people experiencing [this], middle-aged people [experiencing this].”

“And so when so many different ages and types of people all over your planet are having this experience, it is to bring that information with (what you would say) solid proof that you are a spirit in a physical body. And when you are no longer in that physical body, you are still you. You still exist. Is that understood?”

—The Council
(The formatting above throughout this post represents The Council’s comments during our session. Text [in brackets] in these quotations has been added to improve readability and clarity when this seems useful.)

The Council repeatedly emphasized that not everyone who has a near death experience remembers the magnificence of their spiritual reality when they return to physical reality. Increasing numbers of people are able to remember because this is their intention as a spiritual being, and because they agreed to have this experience to help other souls remember you are part of a spiritual reality beyond your physical experience.

The proof The Council mentions is the ability of people who’ve had near death experiences to accurately report physical reality occurrences that took place while their physical body is unconscious, often at a distance from their physical body that leaves no other explanation for this awareness other than a non-physical/spiritual explanation.

If you believe that who you are will cease to exist when life passes from your body, The Council reminds you that you are the life that passes from your physical body. Who you truly are is the eternal life energy that temporarily occupies your human body.

What About Free Will?

Jose’s question also mentions the aspect of near death experience reports where people say they were told it wasn’t their time to leave their physical body and they were supposed to return to physical reality in order to fulfill some purpose. Jose asks where free will comes in if souls are prevented from making the transition from physical to spiritual reality.

“When you are told to go back, you are also reminded why. And so if many do not remember, they usually will come back saying that they had another purpose, or it wasn’t fulfilled, [or] it wasn’t their time. But the choice is always in the spirit whether to return or not.

“But as we said, so much is experienced that is not remembered [that] you may come back and say, ‘I was told to come back.’ But in reality you choose to come back because of what you’ve experienced, and what you’ve heard, and what you know when you were in the spiritual dimension with us.”

The Council has emphasized in several sessions that your free will as a spiritual being is never compromised. But from your human point of view this can seem questionable if you feel your human desires aren’t being satisfied because something is preventing it.

In Closing

The Council is showing quite a bit of interest in near death experiences lately and we’re beginning to understand why. Many of these reports are of experiences that are difficult to explain by the physical reality conventions that modern societies have come to believe in and depend on. It’s exciting to imagine these reports of near death experiences are helping persuade people that awareness that spiritual reality is at least as important as awareness of physical reality.

Spiritual Near Death Experiences

Anita Moorjani’s Spiritually Uplifting Near Death Experience

Reports of spiritual near death experiences (NDEs) seem to have been around for a long time, but we didn’t give the subject much thought prior to seeing Anita Moorjani on Wayne Dyer’s public television special, Wishes Fulfilled, earlier this year. Anita described a remarkable experience she had when her body went into a coma and her organs began to shut down after a 4 year struggle with cancer.

Although doctors said she wouldn’t live more than a few more hours, Anita described having a transcendent beyond-the-physical-body experience of her magnificence as powerful eternal energy and consciousness able to quickly heal her body of cancer. She emerged from her coma remembering her magnificence and her power, and 4 days later medical tests revealed that 70% of her previously detected cancer was gone. Within 5 weeks doctors were unable to find any cancer in her body.

Recently after learning of a local personal appearance by Anita, which coincided with The Council’s first-time suggestion to read about near death experiences, we both felt inspired to read Anita’s book, Dying To Be Me, about her experience. We decided to skip over most of Part I (described by Anita in her Introduction as an explanation of how growing up full of fear led to her “descent into the prison of cancer.”) But the rest of the book is some of the most uplifting and spiritually inspiring writing we’ve come across in a long time.

Reading Anita’s description of her near death experience and her resulting understanding of a greater reality beyond physical reality is a transcendent experience in itself, and a wonderful reminder of who you are as a spiritual being living simultaneously in a spiritual reality and a physical reality; something The Council reminds us often. If you’re interested in learning more about who you are as a spiritual being, we encourage you to read Anita’s book.

In addition to sharing our enthusiasm for Anita’s book with you, we did a session with The Council on near death experiences and we’d like to share transcribed highlights from that session with you.
