Twin Flames, Twin Souls, and Soulmates – What’s the Difference?
This post answers questions for The Council from a reader named Kimberly, who asks when was the last time she incarnated with her twin flame.
The Council says a twin soul, which is another name for twin flame, is part of your higher self and not an aspect of another spirit. The twin flame incarnates as a part of your higher self to shake up your life. It’s not usually a partner, but someone that jumps in and out of your life and forces you to grow. It’s sort of a mirror that shows you your beliefs and helps when you’re stuck.
Sometimes your relationship with your twin soul is a rough one and you don’t get along. Other times your twin soul will be very supportive. The twin soul always comes to help you get unstuck. Many people think the twin soul is a romantic relationship, but this isn’t its purpose.
A soulmate is someone you’ve worked with over many lifetimes and there’s a spiritual agreement to have a very close relationship in your current lifetime. Whether it’s a marriage or a close relationship, a soulmate comes from a different spirit than your own and has agreed to come in and help you. The twin soul or twin flame is someone that you’ve created from a part of your own higher self.
The Council says they feel Kimberly is asking about a soulmate even though she uses the words, twin flame. But they feel it’s necessary for her to hear an explanation for the twin flame because she needs to look at her life and see that she’s brought one in. Is it a close relationship? Is it someone who pushes her buttons? Is it a teacher who helps her go in another direction?
The twin flame appears as a separate person who comes in and out of your life or is in your life for a short period of time, but is really an aspect of your higher self that’s here to help you move on. The Council believes Kimberly’s original question is asking about a romantic soulmate from two lifetimes ago, as opposed to a twin flame, but they feel it’s important for her to explore her current lifetime, look for her twin flame, and ask herself what she is trying to teach herself.
Kimberly asks if anything tragic happened with her twin flame in this previous life and The Council is clear in their answer that they’re talking about a soulmate in a previous life, not a twin flame. They see a life in England during the 1600s. Kimberly was the husband in that lifetime, he had two children, worked as a traveling cloth tradesman, and the tragedy was that although he had a loving family, he abandoned them for an opportunity to sail to different ports and trade his goods.
The Council says in Kimberly’s current lifetime there may be a focus on healing the abandonment from the previous lifetime and learning how the female partner in that lifetime felt. She may be searching for the perfect partner in her current lifetime, but has difficulty finding it because of the abandonment in the previous lifetime. She can heal this by being gentle in her current lifetime, considerate, and having a permanent relationship where she no longer wants to run away.
Bob asks if there’s a relationship in Kimberly’s current lifetime with the wife or children from the previous lifetime. The Council says there was an agreement with one of the children to be the partner Kimberly’s looking for so healing can take place, but this hasn’t happened yet.
The Council says before Kimberly goes looking for her partner she should concentrate on the twin flame who’s in her life to shake it up, teach her to open her heart and mind, and look at things differently. Once this happens then she can concentrate on what she’d bring to the relationship she desires. Then she can look for the joy wherever she can find it because there was a lot of hardship in the past life.
Kimberly asks if her twin flame (which The Council believes she means her soulmate) will be there when she crosses over. The Council says the souls you need to see at the time you cross over will be there for you and you’ll recognize them.
Kimberly closes by asking if her twin flame (read soulmate) has any messages for her. The Council says their message is to stay in the vibration of love, show it to yourself first, be kind to yourself, and explore who you are. There’s so much more you can find out about who you truly are and what you’re able to do in this lifetime. Pay attention to your dreams and watch them unfold.

The Council
Cynthia is able to communicate with a group of five non-physical spirit guides in a manner similar to the way Esther Hicks communicates with and speaks for the spirit guides, Abraham, and Jane Roberts communicated and spoke for the spirit guide, Seth. I (Bob) basically interview The Council as they speak through Cynthia during what we refer to as a session. Sessions generally last 5-15 minutes and are usually audio recorded. During the session Cynthia is aware of what The Council is saying and she also receives visual impressions and other types of telepathic communication from them.
The Council’s Basic Guidance
Since we began these sessions with The Council around 2009 they consistently emphasize a few basic ideas that we attempt to summarize here:
1) You are an eternal spiritual being in a physical body.
You are the energy and vibration of continuously expanding love, intelligence, and joy.
Your physical experience in your physical body and your psychological experience of your personality is a small part of the totality of who you truly are.
Let yourself imagine from time to time what it might feel like to experience more of the wondrous totality of who you really are, and don’t be surprised if you are able to experience this more often.
2) You are the creator of all that you experience.
As you open to the possibility your true nature is greater than you ordinarily perceive, it becomes easier to consider the possibility that this expanded you is truly the creator of everything that you experience.
If you’re used to thinking of yourself in a more limited sense, the idea that you are the creator of your experience may be difficult to understand. Our post, What About This Idea That We Create Whatever We Desire, offers insights into this idea.
3) You are here to expand the love you are into physical reality.
You chose, as a spiritual being, to come into this physical reality to experience the joy of expanding the love you are as a spiritual being, into this physical reality. This is your purpose for being here.
Finding Your Way Around the Blog
Home Page
The left-hand column on the Home page contain a long chronological series of posts with the most recent on top. Each post begins with a title. Me and my twin have known each other for 15 years but we discovered how “special” we are 3 years ago. I should mention that my Kundalini energy had awakened couple months before this meeting. Since then we have had a wonderful friendship, shared knowledge, evolved and supported one another. We had the same body type and we found out that our childhoods were almost identical, and we were always amazed when we found yet “another thing in common”.
In our adult life it was like we were the same person making different life decisions. He was the only person I have met in real life that had a clear way of getting higher truths and be aware of it since he was a kid.
I am a dreamer, that is my most obvious gift for now. I get my answers and guidance in the dream state. Six weeks and 3 days ago I had a dream about me and my soulmate going to my twin’s funeral holding two identical falling star candles (this detail has been my confirmation that he is indeed my twin). I saw his girlfriend crying and saying that his body has been turned to pieces. I knew during the dream that he has died in a motorcycle accident.
17 days after this dream my twin has died exactly the way my dream showed. Since that happened I can’t find peace and I feel my soul is in shock. I feel alone and my twin’s presence is starting to fade. He’s been communicating with me in subtle ways but I want a clear path of communication with him.

Hi, Kimberly. We’re not sure if The Council will be able to provide the names and the cemetery where the children are buried, but when we have time we’ll ask them.
We got the impression you have some healing work to do before you’ll meet the soul in this lifetime who was one of your children in the lifetime in England. Our advice is to follow The Council’s guidance in the session we just did for you.
As we explained in our last comment, we won’t be able to answer your follow-up questions quickly because we have other questions to answer first. We hope you’re feeling better and are able to begin the healing work The Council talked about.

Hi, Kimberly. You’ll have to wait your turn for us to answer your follow-up questions. We get a fair number of questions and it can take a while for us to get around to follow-ups.
It’s our understanding that the second child didn’t have any relation to your current lifetime, but we can ask The Council when we have time about your giving birth to this soul.
No reason to feel horrible about abandoning your family in the lifetime in England. Listen to the recording we provided and try to follow The Council’s advice on healing this.
We don’t have any better communication with the souls of these children than you do. You can tell them you love them very much yourself.
We’ll ask about messages from the children when we have time, but if The Council was aware of anything important we imagine they would have said so.

Also could you PLEASE ask what their names were in this previous life in England and where and what town they were buried so I can go visit their graves and take some flowers ?
Also when will I meet the child from this previous life and how will I know its him ? What is his name in this lifetime?
Could you please ask these 2 questions fast because after I heard that I abandon my family in a previous lifetime it made me physically ill and I vomited

What happened to the 2nd child I had in this previous lifetime ?Since you said one child agreed to be a partner to me in this lifetime .
Will they join me in this lifetime because I would really like to give birth to this child in this lifetime ?
I am feeling horrible about abandoning them and feel as if I deserve Nothing good in this lifetime because I did such horrible in the previous lifetime
