Is It Time To Move Away From A Close Relationship Which Hasn’t Worked For Me?
This post answers questions for The Council from a reader named LookingForGuidance about a big life decision.
LookingForGuidance: Hello, Bob and Cynthia. Thanks for doing amazing work.
I need to make a big life decision about restructuring my life and moving away from a close relationship which has not worked for me. I want to check if this is a good time for me to do that.
I have a good job, but due to current ongoing economic challenges at my company, things may get a little shaky in the future after a couple months.
Council: The time is always good for you when you feel you are ready. Or if you’re not sure you are ready, but you have great faith, and you want to take a leap in this new direction. So you will be the one to decide when the time is right to make whatever move you wish to make.
LookingForGuidance: I have a young son who will also be impacted by this life change.
I was able to tolerate a lot of things in the past, but for the last few days I’m going through emotional difficulties when this person is around me.
Council: So when this happens… You mention you have a son. Now be aware, it’s a pact you made to have this spirit be your son. What are you teaching him when you go through difficult times? That is important. That is what he wanted to learn from you, and that’s what you wanted to learn and teach. So you will both help each other.
But what you go through, are you bringing it through with good words, with good thoughts, and with excitement about making a change, if that’s what you want? And that’s what’s going on at this particular time in your life. Deciding what you want, and then how you live it, how you make it happen.
And you have a son. How do you make your son understand and adjust to the new life? So that is your teacher role in this life. And you will teach him many more things.
LookingForGuidance: I feel like my body and my feelings are rejecting this person, and I get very uncomfortable.
Council: Have you asked your body? Your body is very intelligent. It will always answer you.
So at night, as you’re going to sleep, ask your body: “I don’t understand what’s going on. Why do I feel uncomfortable? Is it something that’s happening now? Is it a memory from a past lifetime? What makes me uncomfortable?”
You have to ask yourself… There is something; what is being triggered? It is not just that you have to get away, but what are you trying to get away from? If you do not figure it out, your next relationship, or the one after it, or the one after that, you will have the same experiences, because you have to figure out what is making you nervous. What is making you want to run? And once you learn that, it will stop, and there may be no problem in your relationship.
LookingForGuidance: I feel like if I continue living like this, I am betraying myself. Does The Council think this is a good time to make this life change considering my emotional and financial history?
Council: Before you make the life change, really go into what is happening in your relationship. How do you feel? What triggers it [the desire to leave]? And then ask yourself, “Does it remind me of something else? Is it something I’m trying to remember?” Because we can tell you, it is not something that’s going on now. It is the puzzle you brought with you to find the answer and change it. And we know you can do it when you start doing the work [of looking at what’s happening in your relationship].
And we would also ask you to learn the chakra breathing. And before you start delving into anything, adjust the chakras. The clarity will come. The body, the mind, and the intellect will all work with you. Do the chakra breathing.
LookingForGuidance: I want to check if I should seek any financial help from this person. If the time gets difficult in the future, will I need that? Or should I just focus on myself, and God will provide me with resources at the right time?
Council: We will say, if you stay on the same road, if you do not do the research into what’s happening, what’s triggering you, then, yes, we would say, you will get to a point where you have to be dependent, and you would need financial help.
But if you take the new road and want an answer to what’s going on, 1) you may not leave. And then, 2), if you decide to leave, you will not need financial help. It will all change and go down an easier path. But you must do the work.
LookingForGuidance: Thanks so much.
Council: And of course, we’ve enjoyed this again. And we ask everyone to always stay in the light with your thoughts and with your energy. Show kindness to everyone and you will feel better.
There is a great shift going on in your reality, and you want to go to a higher level while this shift is going on. So we would say: kindness, love, serving each other, and trying to find the happiness, even when you feel crazy, by just thinking: “Oh, this is part of the change, and what do I need to learn from that?” And always stay in the light.

Thanks so much, Bob, Cynthia, and the Council, for taking my question and for your guidance. I have a follow‑up question based on my understanding and the inner work I’ve been doing.
I am actively working on my communication so that I can stay calm and present instead of running away from difficult situations. I see that I carry a deep fear of rejection and of being ignored, and in this relationship I often feel I have not been treated fairly. There is another layer to this: people around me, including my spouse, have repeatedly been unable to support me even when I try to express myself clearly, or when I try to step back and focus only on my child.
When I ignore the situation and try to just carry on, my health suffers — I experience anxiety and a painful sense of not feeling supported or loved. When I try to communicate my needs, my spouse ignores me and continues to support other people and follow their wishes. Even after working very hard in my life, I have not yet been able to create a relationship with someone I can fully trust and who consistently supports me.
I also see that my fear of rejection has made it difficult for me to voice my needs, but in this relationship, even when I do speak up, my needs are still overridden or dismissed, which creates even more stress.
Please advise me on how I can create a better life from here — emotionally, spiritually, and practically — while honoring my lesson of not running away, facing situations, speaking my truth, and standing up for myself. I have come very close to ending this relationship several times, but I feel part of my lesson is to stay, learn what I need to learn, and truly stand for myself. How can I work with this in the highest and healthiest way for me and for my son?
