What If Your Emotions Are Caused By Trauma That Changes Your Neural Pathways?

This post answers a question for The Council from a reader named Boring Person in response to our post, How Can I Regulate My Emotions Better Without Medication?

Boring: But what if your emotions come from changed neural pathways due to trauma?

Council: There’s only one place emotions come from, and it’s from thought, whether it is subconscious or conscious. So if you want to change your emotions, if you want to change how you feel, if you want to be happier, then change the focus of what you think of.

We had said to another person to smile more. We say that to you. Smile. It will change how you feel inside. Your thoughts will begin to change. Be grateful. Find grateful things to think of. Think of things that made you happier before, or something in the future you would like to do.

Your emotions come from what you think of, whether conscious or not. So take your power and consciously – especially when you don’t feel great – change the focus. Do things for yourself that make you feel good, even if it’s to read a book, even if it’s to go for a swim, even if it’s to go and cook in your kitchen. Do things. You are in control, and you control your life and how you feel by what you think. There is no other way.

Bob: Can trauma change neural pathways?

Council: It can, but focus can change it back. Focus. That is your great power. Your choices are your great power. When you left the spirit world, before you jump into the physical body, your spirit guides tell you, “Remember, your greatest power is your choices. That’s what we are reminding you.

Bob: So it sounds like you’re saying that even if your neural pathways are changed due to trauma, you have the choice to change your emotions and your thoughts?

Council: Yes. And you can think of… if you want to… we don’t always say, “Concentrate on your trauma.” You went through it once; you don’t want to keep going through it again. But if you take that thought, and you believe, “Oh, my trauma changed my neural pathways…” Well, you know what? Thinking good things can change it also.

So once again, think of good things. Change it. The body follows the mind. And we believe it was Edgar Cayce who said, “Mind is the builder. The body will follow.” So if you think, even if your neural transmitters are off and you feel horrible… yes, okay, fine. So change it. Change it with your thought.

We want to say, for everyone who reads this information, you have no idea how powerful you are. And you chose to come in this time, in this reality, to change yourself, to change what is going on in your reality, which is very chaotic right now. Because you knew, when you were getting ready to come in, and you were working with your guides and your angels, you knew what’s going to change it is your thoughts. Your thoughts are what put the energy out [there]. Are you always worried about bad things happening, blowing up the world, diseases, fighting? That’s what you’re going to create.

So we say, everyone stay in the light. Stay like little children. Find things to laugh about, to love, to do to make yourself happy. Change your thoughts. If you can make yourself happy, you can change your world. And as each spirit does it, you help the spirit next to you, and next to you, and across the other side of the world. And everyone will build this energy.
