Ask The Council

What will you ask Spirit?

Why Do Young People Get Cancer?

This post answers a question from a long-time follower of our blog named Susan, who also has her own WordPress blog: Life Is A Journey…Not A Guided Tour. Susan says she understands that diseases like cancer can be created from a lifetime of fear, but she wonders how someone very young can get cancer. She’s heard it can be to balance karmic energies or help another soul with a life lesson, and she asks The Council for their thoughts.

The Council says there’s a lot of talk about having to pay back karma or balance karma, and they say this isn’t the way karma works (unless that’s what you believe). They say it’s more like in one lifetime you experience good health and you see people who have poor health. And in another lifetime you wonder what it would be like to experience poor health and grow from this.

The Council wants to make clear that poor health is a conscious spiritual choice, not a punishment. They add that you sometimes choose poor health to help others deal with this, sometimes you choose poor health to learn compassion, and sometimes you choose poor health to become more loving and understanding.

While Susan seems to assume it takes a long lifetime of experiencing fear in order to develop cancer, The Council says you choose your family based on the experiences you desire. A child is able to experience fear while still in its mother’s womb and develop cancer within a very short period. Or it can plan to experience cancer because they want to leave this physical reality early, or to help the souls around them experience this. Whatever the case, The Council says it is always planned before coming into this physical reality.

The whole purpose of going through a life and death situation is to have the experience, to allow the souls around them to have the experience, and in some manner bring love into the situation.

The Council talks about what it’s like for a soul to choose cancer to help the other souls in it’s life learn from this. And then closes by saying when someone is experiencing poor health, the best thing you can do is send them love and remember they are spirit in a physical body choosing to experience this. And if they wish to live through this illness, you are supportive of this. And if they wish to leave this physical reality at this time, you’ll be supportive of this also.

Listen to the entire 18-minute session below to hear all The Council’s guidance on why young people might choose to get seriously ill.

Purpose of Sharing This Lifetime

This post is inspired by questions and comments from a reader who identifies herself as D. She says many years ago she fell in love with someone who didn’t love her back and the relationship went from friends, to enemies, to friends, and on and on for years. The Council asks D. how she see’s this happening when she looks back on this, and to focus on the aspect of what was able to bring them back to friendship again.

D. says she felt a strange connection to this man from the first moment she saw him. She’s never been able to let go of that connection and often feels stuck and depressed about it. Recently he married someone else and D. describes feeling more loss and pain. She has moved and stopped talking to him, but the thought of this man is with her no matter where she goes or what she does. She asks why her soul can’t let go and find happiness elsewhere.

The Council says D’s soul is very willing to let go, but her human part holds onto what her future could have been with this man. This leads to feelings of depression and loss because D. feels she’s just this human body rather than a spirit in her body.

The Council explains that truly loving someone is allowing them to be however they want to be, and they ask D. if she can allow this man the happiness he’s found with his wife. And can she now find this same happiness with other people who’ve agreed to come into her life for this purpose.

D. wonders if she and this man have shared past lives together and that’s why she keeps feeling connected to him. The Council says they have shared many lifetimes, but ask D. if she wants to focus on what was, or where she is now, and create her future.

The Council says this man’s role was to teach D. to let go and find love wherever she can. And they ask if she’s ready to let go and find the love she’s looking for within herself. Can she feel the love with every person who comes into her life? As she feels love for herself she will attract love from other people.

D. says she’s always known that love is eternal, and The Council says it’s at these moments that she’s remembering who she truly is as a spiritual being. They say we are all love and we want to bring this feeling into this reality.

D. seems to associate her connection to this man with feeling loss and pain rather than appreciating the time they’ve spent together that’s been good for her. The Council says D. needs to change her thoughts about this man and realize he’s a spirit in a physical body. That is what will give her relief. And then ask herself what else she wanted to experience in this lifetime. And tell herself she’s ready to experience the next part of this journey, to experience love, joy, and happiness. Can she do that?

D. asks why she feels connected to a soul who doesn’t feel connected to her at all and she asks if this connection is one-sided. The Council says the connection isn’t one-sided, it’s just that she chooses to be more aware and learn from this connection.

D. finishes by asking what she can do to stop this feeling of connection and what is the purpose of sharing this lifetime with this man. The Council says there are many purposes and at any moment she and this man were able to choose the path they wish to take.

The Council recommends what she perceives as loss, she now perceive as the love she is that she’s looking for elsewhere. Appreciate the positive aspects of this relationship when she thought it was good. Ask herself what she’s learned that is good from this relationship and how she can move forward by bringing new relationships into her life.

This session appears to have some unusually good advice for D. and the rest of us. Listen to the entire 20-minute session with The Council to get all the detail.

Was Abortion Part of My Soul’s and My Unborn Child’s Soul Plans?

Ask The Council audio recordings

A couple years ago we experimented with including audio recordings of Ask The Council sessions in a few of our posts. With this post we continue to make these recordings available to readers in the hope they’ll shed additional light on The Council’s teachings.

Beth’s question about abortion

In June 2013 we published a post to answer a question for The Council from a reader named Beth about the subject of abortion (Abortion, Loss, Reincarnation, Life, Love, Expansion – Beth’s Story: A Spiritual Perspective). Interestingly, but maybe not surprisingly, this post has received many more views from readers than almost every other post except our Welcome post, and it has received almost three times the number of comments of our next most commented post (also excluding our Welcome post).

Emmy’s question

One of those comments is from a reader named Emmy who says:

“I think this post is great in helping understand [abortion], as it can be overwhelming at times. I had an abortion in 2012 and I still think about it every day. And I want to ask The Council if the spirit will come back to me in the future, and was it part of our soul plans?

To listen to the recording of The Council’s answer, left-click on the triangle (►) on the left side of the audio player below. To pause the audio player, left-click on the icon that that replaces the triangle (||) while the recording is playing. You can also left-click along the length of the audio player to skip forward or backward in the recording. The volume can be toggled off and on by left-clicking on the speaker icon, and the volume can be adjusted up or down by clicking on the right or left of the horizontal bar to the right of the speaker icon.

We feel the spirit will come back

The Council begins by posing a couple clarifying questions for Emmy before offering their answer:

“You want to know if the soul will come back in your future, in this particular life?… in another life in what you consider the future?… will it return?

“Yes, we feel it will, in other realities – in what you would consider future lifetimes. There is never a loss or an ending when you are together with spirits who have come to help you.”

“This spirit may choose not to come in as her child. We see they will choose to be together, probably many more times, but in different roles.”

Who You Really Are

“Help all to understand how [you] are all connected,
and to acknowledge who [you] really are:
the spirit in the body.

“It has been done many times,
and yet this is still an important topic,
so we say to teach all
to acknowledge, to find, to connect,
to who [you] really are.”

“As all the great masters have taught,
as many of the books now published explain who [you] are,
which is pure energy, pure spirit, light, vibration,
existing in a physical body–
the physical body being needed
to manipulate around on the Earth plane–
but it is the greater understanding of who [you] truly are
that is important at this time.”

Pain – A Spiritual Perspective

In this post we look at The Council’s spiritual point of view on the subject of human pain. The post was inspired by two questions about pain from two different readers. Robert’s question is a philosophical one about the purpose for pain in our human experience. And Lee Ann’s question is a personal one about a spiritual agreement she thinks she made to ‘take on’ the emotional pain of other people.

Robert’s Question – The Purpose of Pain

If you’re open to the idea there’s a spiritual explanation for things that happen in your human experience, sooner or later you’re likely to wonder what the spiritual explanation is for pain that might be in your life or other peoples’ lives. Robert concludes pain is an anchoring tool that serves the purpose of slowing down your spiritual vibration enough for you to “embody the human density and to have a flesh body,” and he asks The Council’s opinion about this.

“We would like to say here… how many spirits do you think would want to come back and experience this life in the physical body if they knew they had to have pain to anchor themselves into that physical body?

“There is nowhere where we want to come into this physical experience and suffer, and be in pain, and have many, many challenging experiences. It was our belief to come in to make things lighter… more loving, no matter what situation you are in.

“There was never a belief that you must have pain to anchor yourself into a body.

“The spirit decides when to enter [and] when to leave the body; and what its tool is… what its vibration is… is to be in the vibration of love, and happiness, and compassion.

“And there is nowhere where we would want to experience pain, or anyone else’s pain, because that would not help anyone, anywhere, ever.”

How is It Possible There is No Separation Between Spirit and Human?

Jose’s Comments and Questions

Several months ago after reading one of our blog posts about how every human being – as a spiritual being in a human body – creates every aspect of their human experience (pleasant and unpleasant, wanted and unwanted), a thoughtful reader named Jose asked The Council whether humans have the free will and power to create a better-feeling human reality when we feel spirit is creating a reality we’d rather not experience. Jose also asked some additional questions about the nature of spiritual reality and it’s relationship to our human experience.

In response to his questions we did a session with The Council and published 5 separate posts describing The Council’s information and guidance for Jose and other readers interested in this information (links to these sessions at the end of this post). Recently Jose posted a comment expressing appreciation for the information in those 5 posts and how they opened his mind to some new questions. This post is the first in a series that describes two new sessions with The Council on Jose’s recent questions. This post was originally published on July 5, 2013 and has been revised several times as our understanding of these sessions evolved.

Feeling Separate From Spirit

Jose says The Council’s teaching that spirit sometimes creates challenging or difficult human experiences leaves him feeling like a slave or a pet; and spirit seems like an uncaring master who creates negative human experiences (like pain, loneliness, fear, lack, desperation, etc) to satisfy a selfish desire for spiritual expansion. Jose compares spirit to a matador who enters the bullfighting ring for the adrenalin rush, but has no compassion for the bull (which he equates with his body/mind/ego) that is physically hurt, humiliated, and is ultimately killed in the process. Jose concludes, “the mind/body has no choice but to follow blindly and painfully without knowing what the lesson or purpose was, is, or will be” in physical reality.

Jose also asks 3 questions related to these comments: one about why spirit would chose to be born as a child without limbs, one about why a buffer of time is needed between our human desire and our manifestation of what is wanted, and a question about whether it’s possible for spirit and its mind/body/ego to both simultaneously have free will to do what is wanted. Jose politely ends his comment with an apology if his questions sound too harsh, “but would love to know The Council’s opinion on the matter.”

Overview

The two sessions on Jose’s questions generated a lot of thought-provoking information and guidance from The Council – too much to comfortably include in one post. In this first post of the series, we focus on The Council’s advice regarding Jose’s feelings that spirit doesn’t care about the difficulties humans experience, and we address aspects of his question about a child born without arms and without legs.

We plan to follow this post with additional posts on Jose’s questions, and in each post we’ll focus on how you and Jose can feel more connected to spirit’s unconditional love when you feel like spirit, or something else out there, is giving you a hard time.

Praise for Jose’s Questions

Although Jose’s question may seem harsh, The Council offered the following praise for Jose:

“And we applaud him for his thinking, and how he is trying to explore different ideas. And so we hope, as he comes to the reading of this material, that he will begin to let [in] the feelings that will come with the words.”

Mind/Body/Ego is One with Spirit

If you’re looking for some uplifting spiritual reading and you’re not particularly sympathetic to Jose’s point of view, you may be wondering if you made a wrong turn with this post. But The Council says that from the point of view of who you are as an eternal spiritual being, there are no wrong turns in your human experience, only opportunities to use your free will and power of choice to find better-feeling ways of focusing your attention, and allowing more of the feeling of love you are in spirit into your human experience. And that’s a big part of what this post is about.

Why Would Spirit Choose to Be a Human Being Who Experiences Pain?

If you’ve read our Welcome post in the right-hand column of these blog pages, you may remember The Council’s #1 teaching: all human beings are spiritual beings in a physical body. In the 4-5 years The Council’s been speaking to us through Cynthia, this is the idea they have most consistently emphasized.

We mention this in connection to a recent question for The Council from Tanya, who says she’s having the most painful experience of her life because she believes a close personal friend has broken a soul agreement he made with her in spirit.

“Do you realize you have what you believe is a soul contract — we call an agreement, not a contract — with everyone that enters your life?”

I (Bob) mentioned to The Council that Tanya seems particularly interested in a specific soul agreement with one special man who’s been in her life, and how she feels he has broken this soul agreement.

“There is no broken contract or agreement. It is something that was decided between the two of you before you even entered into these bodies. And so when you go through something that is difficult, you believe, ‘uh-oh, something went wrong, this contract is broken.’

“It is exactly the way you wanted it to be, on [the part of] both partners.”
