How Do I Develop an Understanding of My Subconscious?
This post answers questions for The Council from a reader named, Juan, who wants to develop an understanding of the subconscious. He’s looking for information on its nature and purpose, and he wants to talk to the subconscious and know how it can improve his life.
The Council begins by telling Juan he brought what he’s calling the subconscious with him into this lifetime. They say there isn’t a place for the subconscious; it doesn’t exist in the brain or anywhere in the body. The subconscious is thoughts you want to block out and not deal with that you’ve had in prior lifetimes and this lifetime. The subconscious is you.
The subconscious can show up in your dreams, usually in symbols. Your dreams are you trying to reach the questions you have in your subconscious.
The subconscious is your deep beliefs and questions that your spirit, which also is you, would like you to find answers to. It’s there to help you grow and help you question. Don’t be annoyed or discouraged you’re unable to reach your subconscious.
The best way you can connect with your subconscious is through meditation. Learn more about spirit. There’s no separation where you’re here and your spirit or your subconscious is somewhere else or something else. It’s you coming into different realities with questions that need to be answered.
When you don’t get the answer to a question, it’s still with you and it’ll come up in other parts of your life. It’ll come up in your dreams. It’ll bring you a similar experience so you can find an answer to your questions. What you call the subconscious, which is you, is here to help you.
When you feel you’re having difficulty connecting with your subconscious, write it down. Writing is very powerful. If you want to know what’s in your subconscious, write it a letter. Dear Subconscious, what’s in there I need to know? What thoughts are you holding for me that I can find answers to? How can you show me the way to bring these experiences up again and have the answers clearly shown to me? When you put your questions in writing and read it before you go to bed and in the morning when you wake up, you’re subconscious will open up to you and you’ll begin to see your answers coming through.
If you have a dream you don’t understand write: Dear Subconscious, there’s something in this dream I feel I should know. It didn’t make any sense. What are you trying to tell me? Read your letter several times until your subconscious slowly begins to reveal itself. The reason we say “slowly” is there’s part of you that doesn’t believe you’ll get the answers, or that the subconscious is this strange and mysterious place that won’t help you out.
We’d even suggest when you write to your subconscious instead of saying, Dear Subconscious, you can say, Dear Me, because that’s who it is.

Whether to Contact a Guy She Had a Crush On Years Ago
This post answers questions from a reader named Jayden, who recently had three vivid dreams about a guy she had a significant crush on several years ago. She recently discovered he lives practically down the street from her even though they originally knew each other in high school in a town thousands of miles away. Jayden wonders if her spirit wants her to contact this man and see what happens or if this is a coincidence. She’s concerned he may not remember her. Thinking about this makes her feel like a teenager again.
The Council suggests Jayden see her current situation as a wonderful opportunity to help her connect with this man again. And they suggest that before she tries to make contact, she should imagine how she’d like this contact to take place, and imagine the response she receives.
The Council reminds us that there are no coincidences, and that Jayden’s higher self is bringing her to this point because this is something she desired when she was in high school. The Council interestingly says this desire doesn’t just disappear, and now it’s coming to her.
Jayden asks if this person symbolizes something in her life she needs to develop awareness of. The Council says it symbolizes her trying to create happiness, whether with this person on whatever level it can grow into; it is a happiness that was missing when she had a crush on him.
The Council says this is an opportunity for Jayden to have a “re-do”. She knows where this person lives and she can reach out an make contact with him and see what develops. It can blossom, or just be a friendship, but she’ll be able to experience a continuation of what she left behind.
Jayden wants to bring in either a new experience or have some closure with this man. And The Council says again, the way she creates this experience with her thoughts, her feelings, and her beliefs is the way it will happen. With the visualization The Council recommends, they say Jayden can approach this man.
The Council closes by saying that when they come to answer these questions, some people need specific answers that The Council sees are very important, some people need guidance, and some people need to be pushed to open another path within themselves so they’re able to find their own answers and grow.
The Council reminds us that we are powerful spirits and we have all the answers inside ourselves. They are here to help us shake up our reality and find those answers.

Soul Sisters and Lifetimes Together
This post is inspired by questions from a reader who goes by the name, Soul Sister. She says last year she met a woman at a course she was taking and they felt an immediate connection, like they had known each other before. This woman told her they were ‘soul sisters’ and she wants to know what this means. She’d also like to know if they’ve shared a past life, and the circumstances if they did.
The Council starts by saying a soul sister is someone you recognize from another lifetime by their energy, not necessarily their face. You know you have been with them before and you usually have come together to share an experience in this lifetime.
The Council sees these two souls were together in Atlantis working with energy, and they ask Soul Sister if she has an interest in energy healing, crystals, and the power of the mind in this lifetime because that is what they did in Atlantis?
Then The Council says there’s a big jump to a lifetime in France, maybe during the 1500s, where these souls were together in a convent as nuns connecting to God through prayer. In both these lifetimes they were interested in looking for what it means to be spirit in a physical body.
The Council says there was also a lifetime as children whose mothers worked in a bakery making bread and cake for royalty during Renaissance times.
These are the lifetimes affecting their current life and The Council says if they experience a spiritual connection, it’s from the first two lifetimes. And they would be very happy supporting each other going forward learning more about who they are as spiritual beings.
The Council suggests any activities that have to do with energy, healing, crystals, meditation, prayer, the mind, gratitude, and beliefs will be helpful to these two women.

Healing Ovarian Cancer
This post is about an excellent question from Katie, who was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer and would like to know if there’s “a way I can get my higher self to work with and through me to cure myself of this cancer?” And she asks, “How does one renegotiate a life plan that seems to suck, and rewrite or edit it to remove the suffering, and attract health and a happier and more fulfilling life?”
Katie’s question indicates a general awareness of the spiritual principals discussed in other posts in this blog, but she’s looking for guidance on how to apply them in her specific situation.
The first thing The Council mentions is Katie’s beliefs about cancer and how sick she gets when she has chemotherapy. The say because she expects to experience being sick from chemo, she is creating that experience.
Next they tell Katie her spirit created this cancer as a way to get her to sit and think about what is spiritually lacking in her life.
The Council reminds Katie the physical body isn’t solid. There’s space between the structures of her body. And spirit is always flowing an energetic life force to feed the body. On a physical level when you don’t allow this force to flow freely through you, eventually it will cause physical problems. And what stops this flow of energy is fear.
Katie’s spirit created this cancer to look at the fear within her. So as she asks where in her body is the fear, and why is the energy not flowing there, The Council reminds her to think of this fear as fluid, not solid. It is there to be felt, to be perceived differently, and to flow through her and out of her body.
The Council suggests allowing the energy of love to flow freely throughout her body, picturing it any way she can. And ask her body to show her the fear and ask why it’s not moving. As she begins to feel this energy of love flowing more and more throughout her body she can notice it taking away the nauseousness from the chemo. This movement and love will help her get to the point where she can heal this cancer.
This cancer wasn’t created for Katie to suffer. It was created by her spirit for her to stop and change how she perceives herself, how she perceives things she’s experienced, how she’s dealt with emotional and physical hurts in the past, and to now change this. This is how she renegotiates her life plan. She changes how she perceives herself and who she really is. She changes how she perceives what will happen in the future while working through this cancer.
The Council says just with the intention of finding the love within her, just with the intention of having that fluid movement, just with the intention of connecting with spirit she will begin this healing process. Even if she doesn’t know what she’s doing in the beginning, it is her intention to start this healing and find the answers she needs. Even if she doesn’t know how to picture this fluid movement in the beginning, her intention that she wants to do this will already begin her healing.

Where Does Evil Come From?
This post is inspired by a question from a reader named Diana who says that The Council always reminds us we are spirit and we are love and asks where evil comes from, why does it exist, and why would someone choose to experience being evil in a physical body?
The Council’s initial response was that evil is created from our thoughts and beliefs. When I (Bob) said we might need a little more than that, they elaborated.
The Council says we are here to experience any reality we wish to learn from and some of us choose to experience negativity and evil until we realize we created it and we have the ability to change it. Look at these situations as opportunities to learn and grow.
The Council says everything we experience in this physical reality that we consider evil is only here because we wanted the experience of changing it into something more loving. You want to remember who you really are as a spiritual being in a physical body and you have the ability to change evil and bring love into these situations.
When Diana comments there are some people who don’t appear to have a soul or a drop of love in them, The Council replies that everyone has a soul and everyone is love, but what keeps them from experiencing this is they have forgotten who they truly are. The challenge is to remember this.
When Diana asks how someone who manifests evil can be spirit and love The Council reminds us that spirit and human are one being who loves itself so much it allows us to experience whatever we choose while in the human body, and find our way back to who we are as spirit.

A Second Abortion
This post is inspired by a question from NZ about her second abortion. She says her first abortion was a long time ago, was for the right reasons, and she has peace with it. But when she got pregnant after giving birth to her two wonderful sons it was pure panic, fear, and like something took over and made the choice to abort for her.
She had the abortion to provide a stronger love for her two boys, her partner, and herself, but as soon as she made the decision to abort it she felt regret. NZ wants to know why she was so afraid of this child. The Council says it’s because of past lives and stories she’s heard, but she’s created this in her life so she can turn it around. They say if she can change her beliefs about being pregnant, think about having a healthy child, and move forward without the suffering and the fear from before, then she has accomplished what she’s set out to learn in this lifetime with this soul.
The Council finishes with a message for anyone who’s experienced an abortion. It’s a touching thought and well worth a listen to The Council’s 15-minute session on NZ’s question.

Why Go Through Pain to Have Your Soul Grow?
This post is inspired by a question from Asher who asks The Council why it’s necessary to go through pain and hardship in order for our soul to grow? He feels sad human beings aren’t capable of anything else and he wishes to enroll in a cosmic school where spiritual growth is a positive experience.
The Counsel says Asher is already in that school and it’s not necessary to create situations where growth only takes place through suffering and struggle. He has the choice to change his life through his beliefs.
If Asher feels the only way his soul can grow is through suffering, that is what he’ll create. But The Council says we come to this world to grow in love, not through suffering. And as we stay in the vibration of love, less struggle will occur.
The Council advises Asher to take his greatest power, which is choice, and change the way he sees this. In response to his comment that humans aren’t capable of anything else The Council replies that humans are also spirit. They are one and whatever you go through, you learn from it together.

Connecting with Your Higher Self to Manifest the Realities You Desire

“It is the spirit’s job to create the perfect life you want to live and to provide you with all the challenges and joy you want to experience. Spirit knows exactly what you want.”

Irina comments that she’s pretty good at manifesting, but it’s much easier for her to help other people manifest what they want than it is for her to know what she wants and set an intention to manifest it in her own life. Irina wants to know how she can connect with her higher self and get the information The Council says her spirit knows about what she wants.

How is It Possible There is No Separation Between Spirit and Human?
Jose’s Comments and Questions
Several months ago after reading one of our blog posts about how every human being – as a spiritual being in a human body – creates every aspect of their human experience (pleasant and unpleasant, wanted and unwanted), a thoughtful reader named Jose asked The Council whether humans have the free will and power to create a better-feeling human reality when we feel spirit is creating a reality we’d rather not experience. Jose also asked some additional questions about the nature of spiritual reality and it’s relationship to our human experience.
In response to his questions we did a session with The Council and published 5 separate posts describing The Council’s information and guidance for Jose and other readers interested in this information (links to these sessions at the end of this post). Recently Jose posted a comment expressing appreciation for the information in those 5 posts and how they opened his mind to some new questions. This post is the first in a series that describes two new sessions with The Council on Jose’s recent questions. This post was originally published on July 5, 2013 and has been revised several times as our understanding of these sessions evolved.
Feeling Separate From Spirit
Jose says The Council’s teaching that spirit sometimes creates challenging or difficult human experiences leaves him feeling like a slave or a pet; and spirit seems like an uncaring master who creates negative human experiences (like pain, loneliness, fear, lack, desperation, etc) to satisfy a selfish desire for spiritual expansion. Jose compares spirit to a matador who enters the bullfighting ring for the adrenalin rush, but has no compassion for the bull (which he equates with his body/mind/ego) that is physically hurt, humiliated, and is ultimately killed in the process. Jose concludes, “the mind/body has no choice but to follow blindly and painfully without knowing what the lesson or purpose was, is, or will be” in physical reality.
Jose also asks 3 questions related to these comments: one about why spirit would chose to be born as a child without limbs, one about why a buffer of time is needed between our human desire and our manifestation of what is wanted, and a question about whether it’s possible for spirit and its mind/body/ego to both simultaneously have free will to do what is wanted. Jose politely ends his comment with an apology if his questions sound too harsh, “but would love to know The Council’s opinion on the matter.”
Overview
The two sessions on Jose’s questions generated a lot of thought-provoking information and guidance from The Council – too much to comfortably include in one post. In this first post of the series, we focus on The Council’s advice regarding Jose’s feelings that spirit doesn’t care about the difficulties humans experience, and we address aspects of his question about a child born without arms and without legs.
We plan to follow this post with additional posts on Jose’s questions, and in each post we’ll focus on how you and Jose can feel more connected to spirit’s unconditional love when you feel like spirit, or something else out there, is giving you a hard time.

Although Jose’s question may seem harsh, The Council offered the following praise for Jose:

Mind/Body/Ego is One with Spirit
If you’re looking for some uplifting spiritual reading and you’re not particularly sympathetic to Jose’s point of view, you may be wondering if you made a wrong turn with this post. But The Council says that from the point of view of who you are as an eternal spiritual being, there are no wrong turns in your human experience, only opportunities to use your free will and power of choice to find better-feeling ways of focusing your attention, and allowing more of the feeling of love you are in spirit into your human experience. And that’s a big part of what this post is about.

Every Question is Important
This is the first of several posts describing a 1-hour session with The Council on Saturday, March 30, 2013 to answer recent questions from Jose, Michelle, and D.
Jose’s Question #4
We began the session with Michelle’s question about whether to move to Barnstaple, Devon or Glastonbury (both in England), and when I (Bob) was about to ask The Council D’s question about what she describes as a broken soul contract, The Council interrupted:
“There is a number 4 that we keep seeing; what is that, Bob?”

I explained that we have four very interesting questions from Jose and that we answered his first 3 questions based on our understanding of The Council’s teachings because they seemed related to guidance we’ve written about in other posts. It was our intention to ask The Council about Jose’s fourth question in this session and when they asked about a number 4, I assumed they were referring to the Jose’s fourth question. I asked if they’d like me to read Jose’s fourth question to them and they said, “Yes.”
Jose’s Question #4: “If we come to this incarnation to have fun and remember who we really are, why do most people, if not all, fail at this attempt?”

How everything works in your existence;

The Council
Cynthia is able to communicate with a group of five non-physical spirit guides in a manner similar to the way Esther Hicks communicates with and speaks for the spirit guides, Abraham, and Jane Roberts communicated and spoke for the spirit guide, Seth. I (Bob) basically interview The Council as they speak through Cynthia during what we refer to as a session. Sessions generally last 5-15 minutes and are usually audio recorded. During the session Cynthia is aware of what The Council is saying and she also receives visual impressions and other types of telepathic communication from them.
The Council’s Basic Guidance
Since we began these sessions with The Council around 2009 they consistently emphasize a few basic ideas that we attempt to summarize here:
1) You are an eternal spiritual being in a physical body.
You are the energy and vibration of continuously expanding love, intelligence, and joy.
Your physical experience in your physical body and your psychological experience of your personality is a small part of the totality of who you truly are.
Let yourself imagine from time to time what it might feel like to experience more of the wondrous totality of who you really are, and don’t be surprised if you are able to experience this more often.
2) You are the creator of all that you experience.
As you open to the possibility your true nature is greater than you ordinarily perceive, it becomes easier to consider the possibility that this expanded you is truly the creator of everything that you experience.
If you’re used to thinking of yourself in a more limited sense, the idea that you are the creator of your experience may be difficult to understand. Our post, What About This Idea That We Create Whatever We Desire, offers insights into this idea.
3) You are here to expand the love you are into physical reality.
You chose, as a spiritual being, to come into this physical reality to experience the joy of expanding the love you are as a spiritual being, into this physical reality. This is your purpose for being here.
