Abortion, Loss, Reincarnation, Life, Love, Expansion – Beth’s Story: A Spiritual Perspective

This post describes a session with The Council in response to the comment and questions below from Beth on the subject of abortion. The session is full of thought-provoking ideas on lots of different subjects of interest to many people in addition to Beth. Particularly interesting to us is light that The Council sheds on how our spirit’s intentions often manifest in surprising and unexpected ways in our human experience.

Ordinarily we like to offer a sort of running commentary in these posts if we feel it can add some clarity to something The Council says during a session, but it seemed to make this post too long and wordy. It also seemed to place more emphasis on understanding what The Council is saying rather than on appreciating the feeling of the energy offered by The Council and spirit in response to Beth’s questions. More and more we are learning from The Council that what’s important about spiritual understanding is that it’s a focus of attention that allows you to feel in your physical experience more of the love you are as a spiritual being.

As you read through the post, see if you can feel the energy of this session resonating with your spirit. If a clear understanding doesn’t come right away, be patient with yourself and let your connection to who you are as a spiritual being shed light on the material presented here. Give yourself some time. You are always welcome to use the Comment section following the post to ask a question about this material and we’ll do our best to reply.

Beth’s Comment and Questions

“I have a question about abortions as it relates to the Soul and the Soul’s agreement…the Soul of the child, specifically.

“You see I have unfortunately had to make the decision (twice) in my life to terminate what I perceived as ‘untimely’ pregnancies.

“I have a lot of guilt around these decisions, not because of any religious reasons, but more because I am not sure what I did was the right decision for my life’s path.

“Also, I often feel sad wondering how those two Souls (or maybe it was the same Soul) feel/felt that I chose to terminate their little lives.

“I fully believe that those Souls made some type of agreement with me, but I’m wondering if you could shed light on what those agreements may have been.

“Did those little Souls know that they would play this role?

“Is it the same Soul trying to come back in?

“Would I be able to find out more about them, and who they might have become had I chosen differently?

“If we come back in similar Soul groups, could this Soul have been one that I also lost in a previous life (I believe I was pregnant when drowned)?

“I realize that these are many questions, not one, but I am grateful for your input.”

–Beth

You Can Not Stop Life

Reading Beth’s comment and questions to The Council at the beginning of the session, they were quick to comment at the end of her first sentence.

“We really want to laugh here… the word abortion… what does it mean?

“Abort… Stop… Stop life?

“You can not stop life.

“It is all in choosing, and agreements, and experiences.

“And so we just wanted to add that in there.

“Beth did not stop a life… did not cut a life short… everything went as planned.”

What Is Spirit Up To?

This post is the last in a series of 4 posts published to answer 4 interesting questions for The Council from a reader named Jose, who wants to know:

“Why would I, as the one consciousness, seek expansion in incarnating as millions of people living in shanty towns in Brazil, and all countries around the world, through multiple decades?”

At this point, The Council interjected, seemingly rhetorically:

“Yes, why would you?”

Jose’s question continues:

“Isn’t one generation good enough? Isn’t it time to move on, as all the lessons in that kind of environment have been learned?”

And The Council replied:

“Apparently if you create this over and over, all the lessons you want to learn are not done. No one is making you go through this again and again.

“Perhaps you went through it to experience the poverty. Perhaps you go in at another time as someone who can help the ones that are experiencing poverty. Perhaps you bring aid to these people, you build houses for these people, you educate these people.

“So each time you go in there, even if you experience the poverty yourself, maybe you are helping the people around you by the way you handle it.

“But if you are creating this over and over – and no one else but you [is] creating this – then there is something more that you feel you need to experience, to change, to help, and bring that love in.”

Future Lives, Connecting with Famous ‘Dead’ People, & the Importance of the Present

This post describes part of a session with The Council inspired by a question from Jose about how the past, present, and future all happen at the same time. Topics addressed include:

  1. Jose’s question: Why does The Council sometimes refer to ‘past’ lives when they say at other times the past, the present, and the future are all happening at the same time?
  2. Future lives
  3. The connection all human beings have to the creative genius of any human being who has ever lived, and your ability to access this creativity.
  4. The importance of your ability to choose
  5. The importance of the present moment
  6. Karma

Does Spirit’s Pre-Birth Planning Negate Human Free Will?

This post is third in a series describing a session with The Council on Saturday, March 30, 2013 to answer questions from Jose, Michelle, and D. This post focuses on the first of Jose’s four questions and it’s about guidance from The Council in a recent post and the issue of free will:

“In the case of what was shared in Maria’s Plan for a Spiritual Leap, it appears that the spiritual agreement made prior to the incarnation is more powerful than Maria or her friend’s “godly” power to manifest a new reality of survival and togetherness in this lifetime, as if there is no free will in this incarnation.” —Jose

Why Do People Appear Unable to Fulfill a Spiritual Intention to Have Fun and Remember Who We Are?

This post is the second in a series of posts describing a session with The Council on March 30, 2013 to answer questions from Jose, Michelle, and Deborah. Our first post in this series, Every Question is Important, described The Council’s point of view that every question a human being has for spirit is an important question because every human being is part of spirit and every question is worthy of spirit’s attention.

In this current post we describe the portion of the session that focuses on The Council’s answer to this fourth of Jose’s four questions:

“If we come to this incarnation to have fun and ‘remember’ who we really are, why do most people, if not all, fail at this attempt?

“If we are that powerful as spirits, why don’t we leave ourselves iron clad clues of who we are so we can retake our power during this incarnation, instead of being collective sheep following false idols while being subjected to the powerful few?”

—Jose

We’ve wondered about variations of this question from time to time and it’s easy to imagine others interested in spirituality have had similar questions. The Council’s initial response to Jose’s question was:

“Because it is almost like a scavenger hunt. If you came in knowing everything you wanted to do and who you were, it would be quite boring.

“And so when you jump in, the experiences that you create for yourself are there to remind you who you are [and] to show you [that] you have the power of choice, you have the power of creation, [and] you have the power to bring love into every situation.”

Every Question is Important

This is the first of several posts describing a 1-hour session with The Council on Saturday, March 30, 2013 to answer recent questions from Jose, Michelle, and D.

Jose’s Question #4

We began the session with Michelle’s question about whether to move to Barnstaple, Devon or Glastonbury (both in England), and when I (Bob) was about to ask The Council D’s question about what she describes as a broken soul contract, The Council interrupted:

“There is a number 4 that we keep seeing; what is that, Bob?”

—The Council
(This formatting throughout the post represents The Council’s comments during our session. Text [in brackets] in these quotations has been added to improve readability and clarity when this seems useful.)

I explained that we have four very interesting questions from Jose and that we answered his first 3 questions based on our understanding of The Council’s teachings because they seemed related to guidance we’ve written about in other posts. It was our intention to ask The Council about Jose’s fourth question in this session and when they asked about a number 4, I assumed they were referring to the Jose’s fourth question. I asked if they’d like me to read Jose’s fourth question to them and they said, “Yes.”

Jose’s Question #4: “If we come to this incarnation to have fun and remember who we really are, why do most people, if not all, fail at this attempt?”

Why Would Spirit Choose to Be a Human Being Who Experiences Pain?

If you’ve read our Welcome post in the right-hand column of these blog pages, you may remember The Council’s #1 teaching: all human beings are spiritual beings in a physical body. In the 4-5 years The Council’s been speaking to us through Cynthia, this is the idea they have most consistently emphasized.

We mention this in connection to a recent question for The Council from Tanya, who says she’s having the most painful experience of her life because she believes a close personal friend has broken a soul agreement he made with her in spirit.

“Do you realize you have what you believe is a soul contract — we call an agreement, not a contract — with everyone that enters your life?”

I (Bob) mentioned to The Council that Tanya seems particularly interested in a specific soul agreement with one special man who’s been in her life, and how she feels he has broken this soul agreement.

“There is no broken contract or agreement. It is something that was decided between the two of you before you even entered into these bodies. And so when you go through something that is difficult, you believe, ‘uh-oh, something went wrong, this contract is broken.’

“It is exactly the way you wanted it to be, on [the part of] both partners.”

Maria’s Plan for a Great Spiritual Leap

This post is about a question Maria asked after reading a Thought for the Day from The Council titled ‘Everyone In Your Life Was Invited By You‘.

Maria explains her best friend is on his deathbed and she’s experiencing a lot of emotional pain about this. She is asking The Council if it is also with her permission that her friend is exiting her life, because she’s having difficulty understanding why she would agree to ‘loose’ him at this time and in this way.

There is Agreement

“No one comes into your life unless you invite them. Their departing your life is something that they plan along with you, so there is agreement for both of you that when it is time, when you feel you have concluded what you needed to do together, one or both [of you] exit [the physical body].

“And so, although you find this very painful, it has been discussed and planned while you were still in the spirit world.”

Jan & Will’s Telepathic Communication

This post is inspired by a question from Jan about an important friendship with a former student named Will who became like a son to her when his mother passed away. Jan describes feeling a spiritual connection with Will and believes that as spirits before they were born into this lifetime they planned to be in each other’s human lives.

But as Will developed from a child with autism into a young adult he proceeded to withdraw from friends, family, and finally Jan, to the point where she hasn’t heard from him in over a year and hasn’t seen him in three years. After reading one of our blog posts describing The Council’s advice to a reader experiencing a similar separation from her biological twin brother of 70+ years, Jan asked The Council for their view of her friendship with Will.

Career Council-ing

Jaqueline’s Questions – Part 2

This is the second of two posts to answer questions from a reader named Jaqueline. In the first post, Trusting You are Spirit in a Physical Body, The Council answers her question about how to connect with inner guidance and find inner peace “even when things seems to be so messed up.”

Jaqueline describes herself as being 23 years old and concerned she hasn’t decided about a career yet. She says, “I know I worry too much and think way too much, but I could really use some clue about what I’m supposed to do in this special lifetime, if I’m going in “the right direction”.

This post describes the portion of our July 24, 2012 conversation with The Council (non-physical spiritual guides) that addresses career and life-direction issues. We found this information personally very helpful and we believe it can also be helpful to others.

At the very end of this post we introduce some new guidance from The Council on the law of beliefs that came at the end of our session on Jaqueline’s questions.

Trusting You are Spirit in a Physical Body

Jaqueline’s Question

This is the first of two posts answering questions from Jaqueline, who asks The Council how to follow her inner guidance and find inner peace “even when things seem to be so messed up” in her life.

Jaqueline writes that she understands and sincerely believes in teachings like The Council’s and other teachers she’s familiar with who say, “We shouldn’t worry about anything ever because everything is gonna be just fine,” and, “We should enjoy life and think about whatever we want in our future in a positive vibration.” “But sometimes [it] is really hard to put this in practice.”

We like Jaqueline’s question because it frankly addresses a dilemma faced by many of us who are trying to follow teachings like The Council’s. In our saner moments these teaching make a lot of sense to us; they inspire us and lift our spirits. But sometimes, despite our best efforts, life can feel like an insurmountable challenge. When this happens it can feel equally challenging to remember and put in to practice these teachings about who we are as spiritual beings.

At the time Jaqueline wrote her questions for The Council she commented that, “All the time my head seems to be full of stressful thoughts about my future…about my present…if I’m going in the right direction…if I should do something…or nothing at all. Sometimes I get trapped in some drama and get very emotional about everything. Resuming, I have a hard time going with the flow.”

Stressful thoughts, feeling trapped, and feeling other unwanted emotions can be a challenge. When we feel this way and we also believe we’re not supposed to ever worry about anything and we should always be enjoying life, these expectations can sometimes add to the challenge of turning the situation around so we can ‘go with the flow’.

On July 24, 2012 we had a conversation with The Council (non-physical spiritual guides speaking through Cynthia) to get their advice on how to feel more in touch with well-being on a day-to-day basis when life seems to make this difficult.

This session contains many helpful insights, but for us the highlight is the reminder to meditate regularly on the idea that each of us is a spiritual being in a physical body. The Council advises that this type of regular meditation will help us feel more trusting that we really are spiritual beings, and this trust will help us through difficult times.

Interestingly, The Council says that as spiritual beings we actually look forward to these challenging human experiences because we view them as desirable opportunities to expand who we are as spirit into a physical reality.

This post relates the details of this session with The Council, and also includes some information on two meditation techniques they recommend. We plan to publish separate posts describing these meditations in more detail and eventually we plan to include audio recordings of these meditations as guided meditations.

This session also included The Council’s answer to Jaqueline’s question about whether she is going in the ‘right direction’ career-wise, and how career choices relate to experiences we have in other lifetimes. We feel this information is better suited to a separate post and we plan to publish that post in the near future also.

What is the Purpose of a Decades-long Strained Relationship with a Twin Brother?

This post is a response to a question for The Council from Margot about a strained relationship she has with her twin brother. Margot says her question was inspired by a post on our blog that answers questions from a reader named Joe about a strained relationship with his children. On June 18, 2012 we did a session with non-physical spirit guides, The Council, to get their perspective on Margot’s question.

Margot’s Question

Margot’s question suggests she and her twin brother are 70+ years old and they’ve had a strained relationship most of their lives. She asks, “What is the purpose of both of us being from the same womb, sharing that very intimate space for so long, and living as ‘twin’ brother and sister only to live two very different emotional, physical and spiritual lives?”

Margot says she knows that The Council says in our post on Joe’s question that the purpose of all relationships is to bring the love we are as spirit into physical reality, but this guidance “just seems too vaporous and vague” for her to apply in a practical way to her relationship with her brother and she’d like additional input from The Council on this.

My Other Half

In the first part of Margot’s question she describes her twin brother as “my other half,” and The Council quickly offered the following comment:

Isn’t it interesting that someone would think that just by being a twin, the other one is their other half, and they are not whole and truly all that they need to be?

—The Council

Is it Possible to Change Your Life Just by Changing Your Thoughts? + Helping Others

This post is inspired by the following simply stated questions from a reader named Freddy:

  1. How do better-feeling thoughts affect your life?
  2. Is it really possible to change your day-to-day life and your future with just a change in your thoughts?

On Thursday, June 14, 2012 we did a session with The Council to answer Freddy’s questions. During this session The Council surprised us with some related guidance about a question on Cynthia’s mind.

They observed that many of us who follow spiritual guidance related to the law of attraction and better-feeling thoughts, are limiting ourselves when we focus primarily on satisfying desires that aren’t also helping others.

The Council reminds us we are spiritual beings and that we planned with other spiritual beings to help each other bring the love we are as spirit into this physical dimension.

When we expand the focus of our attention to include these plans we made in spirit to help each other, these better-feeling thoughts allow us to experience the kind of spiritual expansion we came here for in the first place. The guidance on helping others begins under the heading: Cynthia’s Question about Helping Other People.

You Sort Of Light Up

“First of all, better-feeling thoughts affect the whole body…your whole mood…your whole vibration.

“You can tell the difference between a thought [like]: ‘I hate this job…I have to get up and go there…’ [or:] ‘Oh, my legs hurt…my back hurts…my head hurts…I have to go to the doctor.’

“And then you have a thought: ‘Oh, I’m so looking forward to this vacation we planned in the Berkshires. Oh, I remember the first time I went to the beach…I was 5 years old…I can still remember the sand castle we built.’

“Each thought has a different vibration. The better-feeling thought is what we call a quickening vibration. It’s like you become more alive; you begin to sparkle. When we look at you…you sort of light up.

“The better-feeling thought also affects your body. When you have the better-feeling thoughts, every cell in your body reacts to it.

“Now is it true that it changes your life? Yes.”

“When you really focus over and over again on better feeling thoughts, your thought…your feeling, is a vibration that goes out into the Universe. And as you are all learning now [about] the law of attraction, you must get back the same vibration that you are putting out. So what will return to you is a vibration that will bring to you more and more of things that will help you feel better.”

Before We are Born, Do We Plan Challenging Human Relationships To Advance Our Spiritual Expansion?

This post is inspired by several thought-provoking questions from Joe, who has a strained relationship with his two sons during a difficult divorce from their mother. Joe is familiar with The Council’s teaching that we come into this life with the intention of bringing with us the vibration of love, and that we sometimes pre-plan with other souls before we incarnate, to experience challenging human relationships so we can experience finding the love within ourselves that transforms these situations.

With this in mind Joe asks The Council how he can better understand the spiritual aspects of his role and his children’s role in their strained relationship. On Sunday, May 27, 2012 we did a session with The Council to answer Joe’s questions, and their answers are presented in this post. The highlight of this session for us is The Council’s insight that the people in our lives we find most aggravating are often acting in a way we asked them to as a spiritual being before we incarnated into this lifetime—for the purpose of inspiring us to bring more love into our physical reality.

Recorded Audio Content

Recently we invested in recording equipment that allows us to make recordings of our sessions with The Council that have a sound quality we feel comfortable making available in our blog posts. Where you see this image  in the post, it’s an audio player that will play a recorded segment of our session. Typically the segment is related to the textual content that follows the player.

The text of the post is an abridged and edited version of our session with The Council. It is meant to provide a good sense of what we consider the most relevant aspects of the session. The recorded content is also abridged, but it’s a somewhat less edited version of the session. The recordings include some session content that’s been edited out of the written post to help it be more easily readable and understandable. It’s our hope that the audio segments help you connect more easily with the feeling of what The Council is talking about.

To play an audio segment, left-click on the triangle on the right side of the audio player. The clip name is displayed in the player and when the recording begins, the time left in the recording is also displayed. To stop the audio player, left-click on the icon that looks like this: . The volume can be adjusted by left-clicking on this icon: ; click on the right side to increase volume and the left side to lower volume.

The Secret to Manifesting What You Desire

Background

Recently The Council suggested to Cynthia that we write a post to help people who are feeling frustrated in their attempts to use the teachings of the law of attraction and deliberate creation to manifest what they desire in their lives. As two people who have experienced these frustrations, we liked The Council’s idea and during a session on Saturday, May 5, 2012 we asked for their suggestions for this post.

Highlights

In this section we’ve gathered The Council’s comments from throughout the session that represent for us the essence of their guidance for manifesting what you desire. In the sections that follow, these comments are presented in the context of the entire discussion, to give you a better idea how these ideas developed during the session.

“We see that many [who] are incarnated in your physical world have many questions about manifestation.”

“We see that many are trying to create specific things – whether it is relationships, whether it is material abundance, whether it is health – [and] that there is trouble in creating it.”

“Many do not know what it means when they hear the phrase, ‘line up with what it is you are trying to create.’ And many are out there teaching ‘to match the vibration of what you are trying to create’. Many do not know how to do this because if you’re trying to create something you’ve never had, or never lived, there is a doubt [about] what it would feel like [and] what it would be like to have this thing or situation.

“So how do you create with your thoughts when you do not have the experience of having whatever it is that you are calling forth? And we believe what many are missing… the secret is: you do not have to line up with that particular thought; you do not have to imagine – even though it is wonderful to imagine – what it is that you want, [and] that you already have it.”

“So if you cannot line up with the vibration of what it is that you want because you have no idea what it would look like in your imagination, or what it would feel like, the answer to this – and this is the answer to manifesting – [is] raise your vibration with happy thoughts, that is the answer.

“When you raise your vibration, everything that you have desired – whether you know how to create it or not –will come to you.”

“It is so simple that many will have a hard time believing this, but we can tell you it’s what you might call the shortcut or the easier way to manifesting. It doesn’t have to be so difficult as seeing that you have it, feeling that you have it, [and] what would it be like? Some cannot do this.

“And so just be happy about anything; stay in the feeling of happiness and spirit will bring in everything that it wants.”

–The Council
(The formatting above throughout this post represents The Council’s comments during our session. Text [in brackets] in these quotations has been added to improve readability and clarity when this seems useful.)

The Rest of the Story

If you agree with The Council that their advice may seem overly simplistic and difficult to believe, I [Bob] had the same feelings during the session (as the following details of our discussion indicate) and for at least the next 10 days. But after listening to the recording of the session every day, meditating on it, and giving The Council’s advice a try, I’m beginning to see evidence there’s something to what they’re saying, and we’re both looking forward to seeing what manifests as we practice reaching for happier thoughts and feelings.

Most of our discussion with The Council during this session is presented in the following sections. Headings have been added to organize the material in logical and manageable blocks of thought.

Communicating with the Spirit of Loved Ones Who Have Passed

Bobby’s Question

This post is a response to a question from a reader named Bobby, who believes, “Spirit…[is], at times, available to us here on Earth when we want signs, information, a visit.” Bobby says, “I find it curious…, when I’ve had sessions with mediums/psychics/sensitives, my wish/want to have a visit or get information from specific relatives does not seem to manifest. …I have questions as to why some seem able/available, while others make no ‘effort’ to so much as send information to us?”

Bobby continues: “I have visited with more than a few reputable mediums/psychics who have given me very clear, relevant information/guidance, so I am fairly certain it is not the person(s) ‘translating’ the information in my situation. And I have most definitely had my fair share of crisis in my life well worthy of someone stepping in and sending me a shout out. But if Spirit is sort of out there willing and waiting to communicate in one form or another, why is it only some want to step forward?”

Bobby also wants to know: “At what time (if ever) is Spirit that has left this realm, available to us here for information? For example, Osama bin Ladin recently left our planet. Is he going to be a Spirit out there that someone, anyone, can speak with?”

They are Always Available

In response to Bobby’s comment that she believes spirit is available, at times, when she’s looking for spiritual guidance, The Council replies:

“They are always available.

The Influence Our Thoughts & Feelings Have on Other People’s Experience

This post is a response to a question from a reader named Bari who wants to believe her better-feeling thoughts about her boyfriend will create better-feeling experiences of the two of them together, as taught by the spirit guides Abraham. But when her boyfriend repeats behaviors that contrast her better-feeling thoughts, Bari wonders how much of an impact her thoughts and feelings are really able to have on the experience of her boyfriend, or anyone else, and she asks The Council’s opinion on this.

This post is the third in a series based on comments from The Council during a single session on Sunday, April 15, 2012 to answer three thought-provoking questions from Bari and Rachael. Reincarnation and past lives were the subjects of the first post, and the second post, in this series.

Helping Others with Our Thoughts

Part way through reading Bari’s second question, The Council offered the following initial comments:

“In the non-physical it is sometimes planned: ‘At some point in my life I will meet you on Earth in the physical. And if I am going through something difficult and I can’t remember who I really am, will you remind me by your thoughts? By your thoughts I will feel that energetic change. I will feel the positive vibration that you are thinking.’ And then, of course, it is up to the [other] person to tune into it and expand with it.

“And so your thoughts go out, whether positive or negative. And the soul you are working with or you are in partnership with feels that vibration.

“And so if they are depressed or they are not accomplishing what they want to accomplish, your positive thought vibration is there and it sort of kick-starts them, but you can not control what they do.

“It’s [as if] you hold the light; you hold the remembrance of who they really are for them. And then, if they allow it, they will feel that and they will move forward.

“But when you have positive thoughts or negative [thoughts] about someone, in your experience that’s how you will experience them. Is that clear?”

Reincarnation, Part 2 – Why We Incarnate in a Physical Body

This post is the second part of our response to two thought-provoking questions on reincarnation and past lives (one from Bari and one from Rachael) and an inspired second question (from Bari),  about the impact our thoughts and feelings can have on other people’s experience.

In our most recent post, Reincarnation, Part 1: All Past Lives are Present Lives, we write about The Council’s response to Bari’s question on past life experiences and on the impact they have on our current lifetime. Here’s one of the more interesting things The Council had to say about the subject while answering Bari’s question:

“All of your lives are present lives. They are all going on at the same time. And you may wonder: how is this possible?

–The Council (similarly formatted text below indicates quotations from The Council)

A large portion of the Part 1 post is devoted to additional comments from The Council on this point. The information on reincarnation in Part 1 can also help with understanding the material that follows in this post.

Why Are We Here?

Rachael wants to know why we, as souls, repeatedly return to Earth, and specifically why she is here…again. She wants to know, “What is the purpose of being here?” And she wonders if learning lessons has anything to do with this purpose. The Council began answering Rachel’s questions with the following comments.

For Love and Expansion

“First of all, you would never be here if it was not your choice. So even though perhaps at the present moment you feel you don’t want to be here, we have to really tell you: yes you do. Otherwise this would not be going on. So it was your choice to come here.

Reincarnation, Part 1 – All Past Lives are Present Lives

This post is the first part of a response to two thought-provoking questions on reincarnation and past lives, one from Bari and one from Rachael, and an inspired second question from Bari about the impact our thoughts and feelings can have on other people’s lives.

Bari’s Question

Bari has heard the popular spirit guide, Abraham, say that past lives don’t impact our current life. Bari finds this unexpected and asks The Council’s views on this subject.

“We like that she believes in reincarnation because that at least let’s us know that you [Bari] know that you are not just here one time and your life is over, as many people do believe.”

“When you understand that you are truly spirit in a physical body that continues to take many different forms and there is no end to what you call life, then you are open to learning many new thoughts [and] many new beliefs about these many, many lives, and that you truly do never die.”

–The Council (similarly formatted text below indicates quotations from The Council)

I asked The Council if they think that people who believe in reincarnation and past lives will automatically also believe they are spirit in a physical body.

“We believe that they know that they are more than this body because: what is coming back in each additional life? And so when you know that this shell, this body, this vehicle that you travel around in – when that expires there is still you – and that is the part of you that we urge you to get in touch with.”

All of Your Lives are Present Lives

“All of your lives are present lives. They are all going on at the same time. And you may wonder: how is this possible?

How to Create Harmony and Balance in a New Relationship

A Question from Sky

This post is a response to Sky’s question for The Council about how to find “the highest and most loving way to create harmony and balance in my new relationship.” Sky’s full question can be found here.

After reading Sky’s question to The Council, they expressed a desire to address it sentence by sentence to make sure they address each issue.

You Have Access to Higher Wisdom

The Council enjoyed Sky’s reference to them as “Beloved Council.” And they love that Sky is thankful for their higher wisdom, but they remind Sky and the rest of us that humans are spirit in a physical body and we have the potential to access the same wisdom, but we tend to forget we’re spiritual beings with this ability. The Council says it’s their desire to remind us of the wisdom we have within us, and they do this by “knocking us on the head a little bit, and opening the door of our heart a little bit” to help us access this wisdom within ourselves.

Marriage Council-ing

K’s Request for Guidance

This post is a response to K’s request for guidance from The Council on how she can tune into who she really is as a spiritual being so she can experience the purpose of her 22-year relationship with her husband, find her way beyond the pain of their ten years of marriage, and re-connect with the joy of their first eleven years together. Here’s a slightly edited version of K’s request:

“I need some guidance. Let’s see if I can express it a way that makes sense.

“I am in the first stages of getting divorced from a friend of 22 years (10 years married and the father of my son) who I quiet firmly believe came to my life (and I in his) because we had lessons to learn, debts to pay, other unfinished business…something like that.

“Somehow as I try desperately to move on, I often get the feeling that the lessons had to be learned and the challenges were/are there for growth and divorce need not be the solution, at least not after a lot has been cleared out recently.

“Is there a way I can tune in more to my real self, my soul, and remember what the purpose of this marriage was, and what my path ahead is beyond the pain? We both care for each other, but somehow…something that seemed flawless for 11 years before, never worked from the minute we got married. It almost got jinxed and we took turns in not being able to get out of negative thinking to face problems head on.

“Any thoughts on the mystery our life has been and some hints of where it needs to go for the two individual souls? Tall order…huh? Thanks a lot.”

—K

How Do You Recognize True Inspiration from Spirit?

A Question from Chris

This post is a response to a question from Chris, who asks The Council, “How do you really know when messages from meditation are really what to follow?” Chris explains she often gets excited by ideas to go in a certain direction with her life, but when she considers these inspirations in the light of her day-to-day experience, they don’t seem so inspirational any more. Chris gives the following two examples: ideas about new people coming into her life that never seem to come, and ideas about a direction she should take for work that maybe don’t turn out the way she hoped.

Chris’s questions seem relevant for many readers, even if you’re not a meditator. If you ever felt good about an inspiration to take your life in a particular direction, only to end up feeling confused when the inspiration ends up feeling like an impractical and unattainable desire, you may find The Council’s guidance helpful.

What’s So Important About Multiple Realities?

This is our second post on the subject of multiple realities. Our last post, What About This Idea There’s More Than One Reality? was the first in what may become a series on this subject. In that post we wrote about a session with The Council almost three months ago that got us interested in this subject. Since then we’ve done two sessions with The Council focused on multiple realities and how an appreciation of this fascinating topic might help us and others improve the day-to-day quality of our lives. Here’s how the second session began (after the customary greetings):

Council: And so you have questions?

Bob: I’m under the impression that you would like us to concentrate on a post on multiple realities.

Council: Yes. We feel at this time it is good to get some of this information.

Bob: When you say ‘some,’ do you have any particular aspect of the information…

Council: The understanding that there are multiple realities that you experience.

What About This Idea There’s More Than One Reality?

This post is an introduction to the concepts of multiple realities and multiple dimensions — subjects that were briefly introduced to us a couple months ago in a session with The Council to answer a question from Diana about a relationship where two people seem to have opposing desires. Here are some of The Council’s references to multiple realities that got us thinking about this subject and how an understanding of it  might  improve your day-to-day human experience.

“But if you go deeper into what many people are not understanding yet, in all of our realities that simultaneously exist, when you ask for this [experience] to be in your life and you line up with that vibration, it is experienced.”

“So you are always given what you ask for, but there are many dimensions. And not to make it too difficult, we try to get your focus to be on creating the feeling within you that you would have with this [experience] that you desire.”

“By making it as real as possible you will find the feeling within you. The joy [and] the happiness that you feel experiencing it as if it is already done – that feeling makes it real in another reality. It is happening. That happening in another reality brings it closer to coming into your existence.

“By just having the thoughts, it is created. But experiencing it as if it is already done makes it already done in a reality, in a dimension, that is closer to your human existence.

“And so each time this memory, this desire is experienced, the vibration of those thoughts and feelings gives the universe (so to speak) the power of creating this in your reality – to bring it in.”

–The Council

Is There a Difference Between Our Spirit and Our Soul?

This post is inspired by a question from Oksana, who observes that in our sessions with The Council there are many references to spirit, but not many references to soul. Oksana asks if The Council can provide information specific to the soul. She’s particularly interested in The Council’s point of view on whether it’s possible to do things that can be detrimental to our soul.

Our Soul is an Aspect or Part of Our Spirit

“The spirit, who we truly are, is the larger part of us. The soul – which some people understand is interchangeable with the word spirit – the soul is the smaller part [of spirit] that chooses to experience this life, and it is what we would consider your personality in each different life. It has the knowledge of what you are looking to experience. And so the soul is part of the spirit and part of the human. Is that understood?”
–The Council

Before Oksana asked her question, Cynthia and I were among those who thought the words ‘soul’ and ‘spirit’ were more or less interchangeable. Prior to our session on this question, Cynthia was already getting information from The Council on this subject that started us thinking there might be more of a difference than we suspected. Their opening statement above makes it pretty clear they perceive the soul as a distinct aspect of spirit, not the same as spirit, but some of the other things they mentioned weren’t as obvious.

Law of Attraction for Skeptics – Consider the Possibility

During a recent session with The Council they seemed concerned many people question the validity of the law of attraction and don’t understand how to use it to their advantage. The information in this post is intended to help you experience the validity of the law of attraction even of you’re skeptical that it exists. It’s also intended to show you how the law of attraction can improve your life even if you don’t think it can.

Law of Attraction Makes it to Primetime

After the widely popular release of The Secret, a 2006 film and a 2007 book about the law of attraction that received a lot of attention in the media, and some bestselling books on this subject by Esther and Jerry Hicks, the law of attraction seems to have found a place in popular culture. Amazon.com recently listed over 1,000 books on the subject, including The Complete Idiot’s Guide to The Law of Attraction. But The Council says there’s a lot of misunderstanding about the law of attraction (LOA).

What About This Idea That We Create Whatever We Desire?

This post is in response to a question from Diana about the idea that everyone creates whatever they desire. She’s read a lot on this subject and asks about the practical application of this idea for creating a relationship she desires. Diana particularly wants to know how this idea works if she focuses all her attention on being with a specific person, but this person is focusing all their attention in opposition to that and doesn’t want to be with her. She asks the logical question: How is it possible for both people to get what they desire if their desires are exact opposites?

What We Desire, We Create First in a Non-Physical Reality

The Council’s answer to Diana’s question provided Cynthia and me with some new insight and understanding into the process of getting what we desire. This understanding begins with the idea that when we have a desire for something, whatever we desire is immediately created in a non-physical, vibrational reality. In Diana’s example, The Council says her desire to be with this person (since a name or gender aren’t specified we’ll refer to this person with the letter A) instantly creates in a non-physical reality the experience that she is with A in every way she desires.

Given a choice, most of us probably prefer to experience our desired creations in our physical reality, not just a vibrational one. So the question is: how do we get our desired creation from a non-physical reality into our physical reality.

What is Karma and How Does it Work?

This post is inspired by a question from Oksana who was confused about the subject of karma and wanted to know what The Council has to say about it.

Council Comments on the Meaning of Karma

“We like this question very much – the subject of karma… how one’s thinking creates their own reality. For many centuries this idea of karma has been elusive. In the beginning it was thought that the deeds you do in this life, you would pay for in the afterlife, such as heaven if you did many good deeds, and hell if you did many bad, hurtful, horrible things – you would pay for it in the afterlife.

“And then it evolved that if you were truly bad enough in many of your lifetimes, you not only had to wait until you went back to non-physical, but you would begin to pay for it in the physical body.

“So again, you would experience many challenging situations in your life. And many people who, not understanding where this came from, would begin to think: This is my karma. I know I’m not a bad person now. I must be paying for it from another lifetime.

“And we can only tell you that you create your own reality. And by believing there is a judgmental God that will cast these horrible situations onto you – we are here to tell you this is not how it works.”

—The Council

How Can We Feel More Connected to Our Spirit?

This post is based on a session with The Council on Saturday, July 17, 2010 that addresses the following subjects:

  • Our connection to spirit is not broken when we’re born in a physical body.
  • Feeling our connection with spirit.
  • Using love and other good-feeling emotions to create what we desire.
  • The power of a smile.

True or False: Birth Causes a Separation from Spirit

Many who are interested in enlightenment and connecting with spirit think that when we leave our true home in spirit to be born into physical bodies that a separation from spirit occurs. The Council says when we think of spirit as being “up there,” “on the other side,” “in heaven,” “in another dimension,” or somewhere other than within us, we basically believe there is a separation from spirit.

Does God Exist?

This is a follow up to previous post titled: Believing in a Loving and Benevolent God When Life Sucks. Barry P. read that post and passed along the following anecdote about believing in God. I found it thought provoking and worth sharing. I hope you enjoy it.

The Young Man & The Barber

A young man, while getting a haircut and his beard trimmed, was deep in conversation with his barber. The conversation turned to the subject of God and the barber proclaimed, “I don’t believe God exists.”

“What makes you so sure,” asked the young man?

The barber walked to the window and replied, “All you have to do is look out in the street to realize God doesn’t exist. If God existed, there wouldn’t be any sickness, or pain, or suffering. I can’t imagine a God that would allow these things.”

The young man was about to disagree with the barber when he had a feeling he should hold back. He was surprised by this feeling, but decided to follow his intuition. He tactfully changed the subject of the conversation, but kept thinking about the barber’s comment about God.

As the young man was leaving the barbershop, he noticed through the window a man on the street who had very long, unkempt hair and a long, unkempt beard. This gave the young man an idea.

He turned to the man who just trimmed his hair and beard and proclaimed, “Barbers don’t exist.”

“Are you crazy,” asked the barber? “You just paid me to cut your hair and trim your beard.” I’m living proof that barber’s exist.

The young man replied, “Look out in the street. Do you see that man with long messy hair and a long straggly beard? If barber’s exist, there wouldn’t be anyone who looked like that. I can’t imagine barbers would allow something like this.”

And the young man turned and left.

A Broken Sacred Contract and How to Move On

This post is inspired by a question for The Council from Chris who asks how to move on when someone she feels she was meant to spend her life with broke a sacred contract by leaving. She also asks if it’s possible to find another partner under the circumstances.

Sacred Contracts

The Council observes that souls frequently agree to come into physical bodies during the same lifetime and help each other in their physical lives, but the Council isn’t inclined to understand these agreements as binding sacred contracts, as implied by Chris’s question. The Council believes the idea of an unchangeable binding sacred contract goes against one of the most important principles in all of creation: the free will that all humans, all souls, all spirit is given by our creator to choose, in any moment, from an infinite variety of possibilities. The Council’s idea of a sacred contract is the agreement each soul makes to unconditionally love the part of itself that comes to experience life in a physical body.

We in the Non-Physical are Always With You

This post contains a message from The Council on the love that spirit experiences coming into physical reality to help all here experience freedom. It’s a brief message, but one of the most loving, uplifting, and inspiring we’ve received. It’s also an important reminder we aren’t alone in our physical existence and that spirit is always with us.

The Council’s Message

“And so today we will talk about the spirit – how unafraid all spirits are to come forth into the physical. It is looked upon as a way to help physical and non-physical expand. There is a great feeling of love to come into this planet and help all that are here – and all that will be here on future trips – experience more freedom.

“With each incarnation we open the road for the ones that come behind us. And there is nothing but that intention to experience joy and love and be playful.  And we do not come here to experience hardships, as some have taught.

“And as we hear Cynthia say her favorite song, My Heart Will Go On Forever [from the movie Titanic], it is not the physical heart, but the love within it that indeed does go on forever.

“As you return to the non-physical, all the love that you have felt in this particular lifetime comes back with you. And there is such a vibration, there is such an expansion, and we all truly benefit from this. And the vibration continues to become stronger. And it reaches out so everything will feel this vibration, from the human, to the animal, to the plants, and the Earth itself. And every kindness that you do, and every good intention, every action helps us all to evolve.

“And so, whenever possible, reach for this feeling of love: in your meditations, in something you want to do, in a memory, or in just sitting and feeling the wellness and knowing that we in the non-physical are always with you. And as we watch you, we also know we are not alone – that you are always a part of us. And so this continues.

“We are all one. And so, as we like to think of you as our little brothers and sisters who have gone forth, we send you our love.”

A Note From Bob & Cynthia

We hope these words somehow help you experience the feelings of love, acceptance, appreciation, joy, well-being, and connectedness to spirit that we experienced during our meditation, and to some extend we continue to experience. It’s gradually beginning to sink into our awareness that the energy and vibration of these feelings is something spirit continually and unconditionally offers all who are experiencing a physical reality; and the willingness of any person to allow an experience of it, in any moment, will help anyone experience this energy, these vibrations, these feelings, more and more.

We welcome your comments and feedback on this post and our other posts on this blog. Feel free to let us know if you have a question you’d like to ask The Council. As their message states, there is a great feeling of love on spirit’s part to help all who are here experience more freedom.

Beginning to Channel a New Consciousness

This is a post about a new consciousness–a new voice–that seems interested in speaking through Cynthia lately, and how we’ve been experiencing this .

Almost a month ago after a session with The Council, Cynthia mentioned that during the session she was aware of a new consciousness in addition to the five spirit guides she experiences of as The Council. This new consciousness felt very much in harmony with The Council, but distinct from it. She described it as feeling powerful, clear, present and strong. It seemed to Cynthia that this consciousness had something to say, but when she tried to let it speak through her, no words came. She said it was as if she didn’t have the words to convey what this consciousness had to say.

I found this very interesting and took an opportunity during another session with The Council to ask about Cynthia’s experience. Here is some of what The Council had to say.

Ask And It Is Given

Striving for More Frequent Posts

The Council recently suggested that we take a break from working on a response to Chris’s question about a broken sacred contract in order to provide readers with more frequent posts. A couple weeks ago Cynthia had an experience that seems like a good candidate.

One of The Council’s Favorite Reminders

One of the points The Council makes most frequently and emphatically is how important it is that everyone know who they really are. While this advice isn’t new, (the ancient Greek aphorism “know thyself” is attributed to at least half a dozen sages including Socrates), The Council also reminds us that humans are non-physical, spiritual energy living in a physical body. Even this idea isn’t new, but it doesn’t seem well understood.

A Desire for the Feeling, Not Just Understanding the Words

Cynthia felt like she understood the words, but had a strong desire to experience the feeling of who she is as spirit in her body, not just an understanding of the words. Many times each day for a couple weeks she would say to herself, “I want to know who I really am. I want to see it and I want to feel it.” Cynthia wasn’t just thinking the thought and saying these words many times a day. She felt this powerful desire deep in her heart and felt like she was sending this feeling out to the universe, asking it to let her see and feel who she really is.

Believing in a Loving and Benevolent God When Life Sucks

This post is a response to a question for The Council from Chris, who wants to know how she can believe a loving and benevolent God exists when her life feels like evidence of the opposite. Chris asks how she can learn to believe and know she is heard and is important when she’s unable to perceive the presence of a loving and benevolent God in her life.

What Is God Like?

Among people who acknowledge the existence of God or a higher power (92% of Americans according to a university survey) beliefs tend to vary about what God is. According to this survey, beliefs in what God is like tend to fall into the following four types: Authoritarian (31%), Benevolent (25%), Critical (16%), and Distant (23%).

Where is God?

Whether we think of God in one or more (or none) of these four ways, we often think of God as being “out there” somewhere—like in heaven or throughout the Universe—rather than inside of us. But The Council advises all of us that it’s important to find God within ourselves—in our own consciousness. This can be a difficult concept to grasp if we’re accustomed to thinking of God as outside of us and we’re used to looking for evidence of God’s existence out in the world.

Feelings are Guidance from the Pure Spirit We Truly Are

Feeling a Need for Change, but Uncertain about a Career Move to the Arts

In this post The Council offers guidance on decision making. The post is a response to Sandy’s request for guidance about a career decision. He’s between jobs and wonders if he should stick to a career path he’s familiar with or try something completely outside of the box. He likes the idea of being involved in the Arts, but he tends to think of himself as a math and science person.

What Do I Do With My Life

The Council observes that many of us stress over making decisions, and this stress can make it difficult to achieve the outcomes we desire. They suggest when it comes to making decisions about the path to take in our life, the more relaxed we can be about the process, the more satisfying the outcome will be. For Sandy, The Council suggests making an effort to enjoy this time between jobs and to consider his desires.

“What brings you happiness? Which thought? Which imaginary situation brings you joy…a smile to your face? There are many things you can choose from.”

–The Council

What is the Meaning of Religion?

This post is a response to Oxana’s questions about:

  • The meaning of religion
  • —Why she has never been able to embrace religion, particularly Christianity, which she considers her religion
  • —Feeling like an outsider because of difficulties becoming part of a group

The Council’s Perspective on Religion

During our session on Oxana’s questions and comments, The Council made several points about religion, including these:

  • Religion is about people’s desire to: experience God, experience a connection with God, experience a connection with the source of all that is.
  • —The desire for a religious experience of unity and oneness with God is a powerful attractive force that draws people of similar religious beliefs together into communities of worship and faith.

You are Pure Spirit in a Physical Body – Part 2

The Challenge of Being Our True Selves

This post is part of a series that’s based on a session with The Council in response to Robyn’s request for support and guidance to:

  • Get past feeling it’s not safe to be herself
  • Stop believing she will be rejected if she expresses her true feelings
  • Start speaking and living her truth

Part 1

Part 1 includes a transcript of an 18 minute message to Robyn from The Council. The primary theme of this message is that we are all pure spirit in a physical body and the more we are able to keep this thought in mind, the less troubled we will be by the issues that Robyn describes and the more successful we will be at speaking and living our truth. This post addresses some of the challenges of being true to who we really are.

Are You Able to Communicate with The Council?

This post is a response to a question from Robyn and a question from William who want to know whether their perception that they can communicate with The Council is accurate. William writes that while meditating recently, a group of beings who identified themselves as “The Council” started talking to him and he’d like to know if this is the same Council that speaks through Cynthia or if he’s just imagining things. Robyn wants to know if The Council agrees she can hear them even though she’s often afraid to listen.

We Are All Part of Collective Consciousness

The Council wants us to understand that we are all part of a collective consciousness. In William’s meditation he experienced The Council telling him that he is one with all, and all is one with him. The Council advises that spirit names are a convenient way to refer to themselves when communicating with those of us in physical bodies, but it’s not particularly helpful to think of The Council or other manifestations of spirit as separate from all that is and its collective consciousness.

Meditation for Heart Chakra and First Chakra

This post is the second part of a response to a request from Robyn for The Council’s support and guidance to:

  • Get past feeling it’s not safe to be herself
  • Stop believing she will be rejected if she expresses her true feelings
  • Start speaking and living her truth

In our first post on Robyn’s questions, we included a transcript of an 18 minute message of guidance from The Council. Part of this message was a suggestion to meditate 10-20 minutes a day to help Robyn connect with the pure spirit she truly is within her physical body.

Later in this session The Council provided step-by-step instructions for a meditation to energize the heart chakra and the First chakra, which they said would improve Robyn’s ability to use her thoughts to create the change she wants in her life. The Council pointed out this meditation can benefit all, not just Robyn. Here are the steps of the heart chakra – first chakra meditation:

You Are Pure Spirit in a Physical Body – Part 1

Robyn’s Request

This post is the first part of a response to a comment by Robyn (click to view comment) who asks The Council for support and guidance to:

  • Get past feeling it’s not safe to be herself
  • Stop believing she will be rejected if she expresses her true feelings
  • Start speaking and living her truth

Robyn adds that she:

  • Seems to have spent most of her life running away from herself
  • Has tried being almost anyone but who she really is
  • Has tried to make herself more like people she’s admired
  • Never got to know who she genuinely is, and suspects the reason is that she won’t be able to love and accept herself
  • Is tired of pretending

Thank you, Robyn, for your comment. If it hasn’t occurred to you already that your questions are evidence you’ve started speaking your truth, you may want to give this some thought.

Meditation for Spiritual and Emotional Inspiration

This post is inspired by a question for The Council from Gayle. Gayle asks how she can have a deeper understanding and a better sense of the information she often experiences from her ancestors.

Who are Our Ancestors?

When Cynthia and I asked The Council Gayle’s question, they were careful to point out that it’s limiting to think of our ancestors as only people in our family bloodline. From The Council’s point of view, all human beings are eternal ever-lasting soul energies that experience many lifetimes, in many bodies, in many families.

From this reincarnational point of view, The Council encourages us to think of our ancestors as all the souls we’ve come to know and love through experiences we’ve shared in all our lifetimes (as well as between lifetimes). The Council believes this is a less limiting way of thinking about ancestors – a way of thinking that can make it easier to access spiritual and emotional inspiration and guidance.

Meditation to Improve Spiritual and Emotional Inspiration

The Council advises that prayer and meditation will help us develop the intuitive abilities Gayle desires. The Council particularly recommends working with the Crown chakra at the top of the head for spiritual intuition and the Heart chakra in the center of the chest for emotional intuition. They emphasize that working with these two energy centers together is a particularly powerful way to improve our perception of the ever-present inspiration and guidance available from spirit.
